The various people in John's narrative show us truths about ourselves and this world that help us understand our need for Christ for all of life.

In washing the disciples’ feet, Jesus sought to comfort them with a demonstration of His compassion and

instruct them in gospel truth and conduct.

The human heart is sick with sin and in need of a restoration and renewal that can only come by the Light of Christ, the only source of true and lasting life.

The purpose of Christ’s death was to glorify the Father by taking the punishment that sinners deserve and dying in their place.

In doing so, He secured the salvation of His sheep and silenced the accusations of Satan.
