Title- A Prayer For Spiritual Maturity----a.To be strengthened in the inner person through the Spirit v. 16. --What is this- No need to speculate, Paul explains it as- ---- 1. To realize the presence of Christ v 17. -- 2. To comprehend the Love of Christ v 18 and -- 3. To be filled with God v 20----b. This strengthening produces a realization of the presence of Christ in us, by faith.----c. Thirdly, strength in the inner person is to be gripped by the Love of Christ.----d. Understanding this love, will cause believers to be filled up, up to the fullness of God v. 19.

Thesis- Since time is short and is lost once it passes, we often get caught in thoughts of -I should have . . .- or -I wish I didn't . . . .-. The Christian often has more regrets after salvation in understanding and applying the Gospel.----The Christian often feels undeserving because of sin and gets trapped in frustration of negative thinking- I'll never be what I should be or want ot be.----Philippians 3-8,13-14 encourages us not to dwell on past -what if's-. Yes, we can regret and learn, but we shouldn't live in defeat, dejection and misery about it.----Dwelling on past usually leads to failure and sin in present.----We need to ignore the guilt machine and embrace scripture promises - 1 John 1-9----1 Corinthians 15-8-10 we see Paul highlighting his past regrets -persecuting Christians-, but not dwelling in it, rather focusing on God's grace and the joy it brings.----CONCLUSION- Believers can focus on God - his goodness, grace, mercy, etc - and rejoice and live in thankful service or stay stuck in misery , dwelling on past failures.

Parable in context is Jesus' response to Peter's attitude to Jesus' response to the rich young ruler in Matthew 19.
