  • The Dignity Of Women
Esther details God's providential plan to rescue the Jews from near extermination through the courageous obedience of a young Jewish woman named Esther. The book opens in Chapter 1 with a drunken dinner party thrown by King Xerxes of Persia for his military leaders, nobles, and officials. When he calls for his wife, Queen Vashti, to entertain his drunken guests by parading herself as a sexual object, she refuses. It will cost her the throne. She will be deposed (and perhaps even killed, although the Bible doesn't say so) for refusing the king. Why was she so willing to lose everything-her status, her fame, her fortune, her crown, and perhaps even her life? Answer-to protect her dignity. Join Pastor Gary in this Mother's Day intro to the book of Esther entitled, "The Dignity of Women."

  • The Test Of Time
If we are not careful, things can begin to suffer over time-relationships, principles, and convictions. Sadly, things and people we once valued and cherished can become neglected over time. This is exactly what began to happen in Jerusalem during Nehemiah's 10-year absence. When he returned to Jerusalem he found that the Jews had allowed four areas to become neglected over time. In today's conclusion of the book of Nehemiah (and our series through Ezra and Nehemiah), Pastor Gary challenges us about never allowing time to erode our values, convictions, and principles. We must continue to remain true to the Lord and to His Word.

  • Building Up Our Spiritual Walls
It's easy for us to get so preoccupied with the physical that we neglect the spiritual-we work hard at our jobs, we raise kids, we pay bills, we work out, we eat right-all good things. But what are we doing to take care of our spiritual lives? What are we doing to feed our souls? In today's study from Nehemiah 7-10, we see how the Israelites shifted their attention from the physical (building the wall of Jerusalem), to the spiritual (building up their lives spiritually). There were three key disciplines that the Israelites practiced in order to build up their lives spiritually. Those three things are the topic of today's study with Pastor Gary Hamrick.

  • Patient Perseverance
When we face outside opposition from others - when people malign us, attack us, lie about us, etc. - what is the proper way to respond? Often times we think that the only two options are flight or fight. But there's another option that Nehemiah modeled for us when the Jews faced strong opposition from their neighbors concerning the rebuilding of Jerusalem: patient perseverance. In today's study, Pastor Gary shows us three important things that Nehemiah did when he was under personal attack. Join us for today's Bible study from Nehemiah 6.
