King Saul was insecure and paranoid and became consumed with jealousy and anger towards David. The once humble, reluctant king was now aggressively trying to defend his throne from any perceived threats. Saul became jealous of David's popularity, David's success, and David's relationship with the Lord. During that time, God grew him, refined him, and prepared him to be king.
