Transporting the Ark of God up to Jerusalem was one of the highest and holiest days in the history of Israel. Four chapters of holy Scripture are devoted to it (2Sam6; 1 Chron. 13, 15-16). In this sermon we will examine David as a true worshiper of God. Nothing is more important in our lives than getting our worship right.

Doctrine: True worship is our highest priority and our deepest enjoyment

Q: How may our worship be most God-pleasing and joy-producing?

I. Our worship must be God-exalting and self-abasing

II. Our worship must be in spirit and in truth

I encourage you to read 1 Chronicles 13, 15 and 16 to get the grander picture of what we will cover in 2 Sam 6. Sad tragedy is turned into joyful triumph and Israel experiences one of the highest days of their national history.   

Doctrine: God’s holiness is evidenced by God’s wrath   

Q: What do we learn from Uzzah’s death?   

I. God’s work must be done God’s way   

II. God’s holiness is to be reverently treasured not trifled with    

Doctrine: Christ is Master of our breakthroughs   

Q: How do spiritual breakthroughs come in our lives?    

I. God brings a difficult if not impossible challenge to us   

II. We inquire of the Lord   

III. As we fight the Lord’s way the breakthrough comes   

Doctrine: David’s road to Coronation foreshadows Christ’s path to Humiliation and Exaltation   

Q: How does David’s journey to kingship foreshadow Christ’s path to coronation?   

I. David was born in Bethlehem  

II. David was promised a Son who would reign forever  

III. David was a Shepherd  

IV. David was a man after God’s own heart  

V. David was anointed king privately in his father’s house   

VI. David’s kingship was a fulfillment of prophecy  

VII. David appeared suddenly on the scene doing mighty works  

VIII. David’s popularity made leadership insanely jealous  

IX. David was despised and rejected by Israel    

X. David was a homeless wanderer  

XI. David’s path to the throne was marked by suffering and bloodshed  

XII. After a season of humility David was exalted to kingly glory  

XIII. David made a covenant with his people

Doctrine: Besetting sin robs us of God’s best and assures us of unnecessary heartache

I. Jesus fulfilled Old Testament prophecies foretelling Messiah’s death & resurrection

II. Jesus foretold His own death & resurrection

III. The Roman guard and seal attest to the resurrection

IV. Reliable eyewitnesses and documentation attest to the resurrection

Doctrine: The beauty of the King is a divine cordial (a majestic medicine) for troubled hearts.  

Q: What Kingly beauty do we behold in Christ’s Triumphal Entry?

Doctrine: God is greatly glorified and you will be greatly satisfied when you direct your heart after His.     

Act 13:22  … 'I HAVE FOUND DAVID THE SON OF JESSE, A MAN AFTER MY OWN HEART, WHO WILL DO ALL MY WILL.’    

Q: What does a heart after God’s heart look like?  From David we learn that it:
