2 Sam. 8 is a record of David’s victories in taking possession of the full promised land. A picture emerges of a far more glorious King and His conquests on our behalf. A second picture arises calling the believer to battle against sin and to take possession of the full promised land.   

Doctrine: A sin-conquering life is a Promised Land-possessing life   

Q: How can we enjoy the promised land of abundant life now?

Doctrine: The ultimate fulfillment of God’s covenant with David is Messiah’s everlasting House & Throne & Kingdom. 2Sa 7:16  And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you. Your throne shall be established forever."  

Q: What would God have me do? 2Sa 7:2  … the king said to Nathan the prophet, "See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells inside tent curtains." 2Sa 7:3  Then Nathan said to the king, "Go, do all that is in your heart, for the LORD is with you."
