I.      Motives matter when inviting people to dinner. (vs. 12-14)   

II.    A generous host prepares an elaborate banquet and invites many. (vs. 15-17)   

III.  The original invitees give lame excuses for rejecting the host and not coming to his banquet. (vs. 18-20)   

a.     Material pursuits and idols (vs. 18-19)   

b.     Relational pursuits and idols (vs. 20)   

IV.   The generous host invites many others to his banquet who are weak, lowly, and rejected by the masses. (vs. 21-23)   

V.    The original invitees who rejected the host will not be invited back and will miss out on the joy and celebration. (vs 24)   

VI.  Jesus must be our first love and greatest Treasure if we want to attend the banquet. (vs. 25-27)   

The Real Heavenly Wedding Feast – see Revelation 19:6-9   

Main Idea: A lavish wedding feast is awaiting everyone who will come to Christ in repentant faith and make Him their greatest Treasure.   

Application: 1. Motives matter; 2. All people matter; 3. There is no legitimate excuse for rejecting Christ.  Come to Him in repentant faith.

Sunday, Nov 1st was International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church and we want to honor that on this Lord’s Day    

Doctrine: We have a Divine mandate to care for our persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ     

Goal: Stir up compassion for the persecuted church and fitting deeds of mercy

1.     There is great joy, healing and relief when a person is forgiven. (vss.1-2)    

2.     There is great pain and guilt in unconfessed sin. (vss.3-4)     

3.     Before we can experience God’s forgiveness, we must repent and confess our sins to Him. (vs.5)      

The Necessity of Repentance    

Luke 13:3 - 3 I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.     

Mark 6:12 – They went out and preached that people should repent.      

See Luke 5:32; Acts 17:30 and Acts 26:20       

What Is Repentance - Biblical repentance is a change of mind, (agreeing with God that you are a sinner who deserves his judgment) which results in a radical change of heart and direction.     

2 Corinthians 7:10-11 - 10 Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.      

The Value of Transparency, Confession, Repentance and Forgiveness – see 1 John 1:9; James 5:16; Proverbs 28:13     

James 5:16 – Therefore confess yours sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.  The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.       

Main Idea: Great joy and blessing comes to those who repent of their sins and experience God’s forgiveness

I.  Satan comes to Adam and Eve in disguise. (vs.1; 2 Corinthians 11:14)   

II. Satan questions God's word and attacks God's character as he gets Eve to focus on the forbidden fruit. (vss. 1a-5)    

III. Eve was deceived and sinned; Adam was not deceived, yet still sinned. (vss. 6-7)   

Main Idea: Satan entices us to sin by coming in disguise and getting us to question God's word and doubt God's character.

I. Mercy-seekers become mercy-obtainers – David & Shimei   

II. Mercy-obtainers become mercy-givers - David   

III. Mercy obtainers become King-lovers – Mephibosheth
