2. The Corinthians are being given an opportunity to repent.

3. Paul has been given authority over the Corinthians to empower them in their sanctification.

1 Corinthians 4:14-17

1. Are you reproducing?

2. Are you discipling?

3, Are you following Christ?

-Reproduction without discipleship often shows we love ourselves and want to be made much of.

-Discipleship without following Christ often shows that we love ourselves and want to be made much of.

-But reproduction that then truly disciples and is led by people who are following Christ reveals a deep love for God and a desire to make much of him.

1 Corinthians 4:6-13

1. Don't live like a Corinthian (v.s. 8, 10)

-A Corinthian is wise in his own eyes

-A Corinthian is strong in his own eyes

-A Corinthian is held in honor in his own eyes

2. Live like a spectacle (v.s. 9-13)

-A Christian is a fool for Christ

-A Christian knows his only strength is in God

-A Christian is held in disrepute

-A Christian suffers as scum and refuse

5 Reminders from our text:

1. You should consider your pastor as a slave, an under-rower who has been assigned to distribute specifically and explicitly what the Master tells him to.

2. Your pastor will be judged based on his faithfulness to the Master.

3. You are not the master of your pastor and therefore cannot fully judge his faithfulness.

4. Your pastor is not his own master and therefore cannot truly judge his faithfulness.

5. The Lord is the Master of your pastor. He knows your pastor’s heart and motives, and therefore the Lord will judge the faithfulness of your pastor.
