  • CV Central - 5/12/2020 - "Revisiting Models - Transmission Rates and Herd Immunity"
In Episode 67, we look at the most updated numbers, modeling, and assumptions about how to work out the epidemiological response moving forward.  With many more people having experienced Covid, we still remain at just the beginning of this outbreak, with far more having kept apart, and as we begin reopening in America, the question of what launching the transmission rate, R, might mean gets tackled here.  We look at how much mobility might impact the reduction, what non-pharmaceutical interventions would prove necessary, the clear and not so clear risks of herd immunity, and the question whether a vaccine is even possible.  There are no clear answers, but learning to ask the questions more clearly is what we must do rather than stumble forward blindly as we seek to determine which variables are crucial.

  • CV Central - 5/11/2020 - "Symptoms and Syndromes: A Longer Look at Covid and Health"
Our sixty-sixth episode looks into the long term dangers of Covid as we reassess the symptoms in this continually evolving disease.  From fever, cough, and breathlessness, to more obscure symptoms like loss of smell and taste, discolored toes, and diarrhea, we look at what these might mean.  Furthermore, we look at what people experience after getting sick, using a new study to strengthen our autoimmune argument as we look at clotting and inflammation potentially causing a host of symptoms.  Survivors are already suffering from being forgotten and neglected, and in the rush to move forward, we risk moving past not just the threat of the disease, but the needs of our people as well.

  • CV Central - 5/8/2020 - "The World Revealing Itself in New Realities"
We close this week with our 65th Episode and see the world showing how things really work as opposed to the false delusions.  Russian oligarchs try to stop viral spread to stay afloat while Mexico struggles to keep up with the body county, Brazil's political crisis worsens, and in Africa, a slow, steady and painful burn is forecast.  We try to understand why things seem to be picking up again with hints about reinfection, sexual transmission, long lasting samples in lungs, all amidst the backdrop of an evolving pathogen, a collapsing global economy, and acrimonious competition between America and China.

  • CV Central - 5/7/2020 - "Contraction in Food and Spending in the Pandemic"
Episode 64 picks up the discussion from the finance coverage last show to the pragmatic level of the problems of business.  We start first with the startling announcement the US military is not accepting anyone who had Covid moving forward as we consider what such a world means for consumer demand as some seek to reopen.  What do we end up?  Herds that are being sold for a fraction of the cost, fishermen in port, empty restaurants in Texas, and another 3 million plus unemployed today.  Banks continue tightening lines of credit as the Treasury signals resistance about helping businesses do what they need to cover overhead as the effort to force people back to work, profit be damned, seems to be stuck in DC and some states.  Amidst this, it's not hard to predict things will get worse rather than better as staple prices will rise, unemployment will rise, businesses will be broken, and mistrust will grow as the question of who eats the debt becomes a hot potato which will be brutal in the best case scenario and unimaginable should the predicted second wave snuff out any hope of a rapid recovery.

For the 63rd Episode, we begin a two part look at finance, the economy, and the response to Covid by looking at the highest level.  This challenging episode will help you rethink how money works, share why America and other countries have a strange response, and explore the relationship between funding, loans, taxation and control.  Most importantly, you'll have the context to predict and understand what might come ahead in a time of pandemic, falling oil prices, low consumption, unsustainable debt, and the question of who pays for what.  The world is changing, and understanding what really happens is key to your ongoing survival.

  • CV Central - 5/5/2020 - "Evidence of Covid as an Autoimmune Disease"
Episode 62 is the second part of our biological update where amidst projections of a worsening sickness and death rate, we look deep into the science.  We look at why D614G is proliferating and what it is doing to make Covid more adaptable, and look at one study from Georgia and another from Germany which independently confirm dysgenic immune response is the most reliable predictor for severity.  In short, Covid's worst cases are the ones where it learns to use our antibodies against us, presaging dangers for vaccine production and a second wave with a mutating disease that could be truly terrifying in scope.

  • CV Central - 5/4/2020 - "Transmissibility, Mutations, and Immune Enhancement"
In Episode 61, we begin a two-part review of some breaking research that reveals that Covid is confirmed to be mutating in ways to make it more infective using both mutations and recombination.  Distressingly, it looks like modifications to the spike protein suggest that immune suppression and enhancement are possibilities for what we might expect in a second wave.  Where everyone will be looking for the number of people who have had cases and who have antibodies as a sign of safety, emerging evidence suggests this might be precisely the opposite as the development of an antibody dependent enhancement (ADE) or other immune dysfunction means Covid may have the capacity to weaponize our immune system against us.  Tomorrow, we build upon the new mutation research and the strange failures and dangerous research to show the evidence of how the second wave might have already quietly begun as we march openly into Covid's arms.

  • CV Central - 5/1/2020 - "Worldwide Issues on Food, Health, and Insecurity"
Episode 60 expands the outlook as we check in on Russia, the UK, and Canada in more depth and see how hints of a second wave are peeking out from Germany to Singapore.  Global food supply chain issues are leading to greater insecurity presaging political issues.  The disappearance of Kim Jong Un as President Trump hints that the Wuhan lab is to blame for Covid only ratchets the tension further, as we close with diverging narratives in America as we see other countries finding the way to come together against a shared enemy: Covid.

  • CV Central - 4/30/2020 - "Less Shedding and Tough Sledding"
Episode 59 covers two areas in some depth, starting with good news from Korea suggesting viral shed improbable from recovered patients which should reduce contagiousness.  That is tempered by more reporting on strokes in younger people, as Indian scientists identify a potentially emerging dominant strain which may explain why we are seeing new symptoms emerge.  The challenges this virus is wracking upon the economy continue to worsen with another 3.8 million Americans filing for unemployment, and states doing all sorts of things to get people back to work, potentially not just putting their people at risk, but literally lying and compelling them to act against their own interest as we begin to see the partisan divide surpass the concern for public health.  We close by looking at why Hoover made the Great Depression worse as we risk replicating those same mistakes in this era.

  • CV Central - 4/29/2020 - "Who pays for unemployment amidst rising factionalism?"
For the 58th Episode, we turn to a heavily divided America as we look at structural problems at both the economic and political levels and the challenges they portend.  After a quick update about a disturbing new problem with children in the UK that is potentially Covid related, we see Nevada and Colorado join the Western Pact and Florida basically let slip they're coordinating their open with Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Tennessee in support of the Administration and DC.  When you realize unemployment is in genuine risk of insolvency, the actions to open certain business, the recalcitrance of the Senate, and the unhealthy rush to begin again take on a new light as we see the Fed stepping up to help towns, with uncertain outcomes, as Congress does not.  We look at the Paycheck Protection Program that costs workers and businesses money, and as inadequate as the meat supply continues to be in peril, but the response from DC is forcing people to work as strikes portend in May.  Amidst all this, we see the hyperpartisanization make effective policy impossible as America slinks further into unsolvable conflict inviting the virus to do what it will.
