    • life on tour with Blue October and staying grounded on the road

    Show Guest Justin Furstenfeld:

Justin Furstenfeld is one of the most distinctive voices in American rock. As the frontman, songwriter, and creative force behind Blue October, he has led a multi-platinum band that has sold more than 3 million albums and singles worldwide and passed 1.5 billion streams. He has written and recorded more than 18 Top 40 hits, including "Hate Me," "Into the Ocean," "I Hope You're Happy," "Oh My My," "Fear" and "Calling You."

Justin formed Blue October with his brother Jeremy in Houston in the mid-'90s. Drawing early inspiration from The Cure and Radiohead, he built a sound around love, loss, addiction and redemption. That sound broke wide open in 2006 with Foiled, the platinum-selling album he chiefly wrote and co-produced. Over his career he has recorded 16 studio albums: 13 with Blue October, two solo, and one with Harvard of the South. He has also released two concert films, Argue With A Tree and Things We Do At Night.

On stage, he is known as one of the most powerful live performers of his generation. Fans around the world describe Blue October shows as cathartic and life-changing.

His story is also one of transformation. After years of addiction and mental health struggles, Justin has been sober since May 2012 and is a vocal advocate for sobriety and emotional well-being. The documentary Get Back Up, filmed over seven years, takes an unflinching look at that journey.

His creative work reaches well beyond the band. For 15 years, his one-man show An Open Book has paired acoustic songs with personal storytelling. He is the author of two books, Crazy Making and I Laugh At Myself. He has acted in the film Lights Out, and in 2024 he launched his lifestyle brand, Furstenfeld, with parfums he crafted himself.

In 2026, Blue October is celebrating 20 years of Foiled with a world tour, playing the album front to back each night across Europe and North America. A new studio album is planned to follow the tour.

    Show Guest:

Valerie Hemming is the founder of Salt & Light Wellness Spa, a compassionate, trauma-informed wellness space created to help people slow down, reconnect with their bodies, and find greater ease in their nervous systems.

Drawing from years of training in somatic and body-mind therapies, nervous system regulation, and trauma-informed practice, Valerie brings together a range of integrative wellness modalities designed to support physical, cognitive, and emotional well-being. Her work is rooted not only in professional training, but in her own healing journey through complex trauma and the survival patterns that once kept her moving, bracing, and pushing through.

That experience inspired Valerie to create the kind of space she once needed herself—one where people can arrive exactly as they are, feel supported rather than pressured, and give their bodies and minds permission to rest, repair, and restore.

Before founding Salt & Light, Valerie created Mandala Hills, a healing sanctuary on her private land where people could experience nature, community, classes, private sessions, and the simple power of slowing down. Today, she continues that mission through Salt & Light, helping others recognize the difference between surviving and truly living.

At the heart of Valerie’s work is a simple invitation: slow down, come home to yourself, and discover what becomes possible when your nervous system finally has room to exhale.

He lives by two guiding principles: "We are what we allow ourselves to be; we make our choices, and our choices make us," and "You are not special—you are unique." Married to Professor Gleidson "PoneY" Cutis, Carol serves alongside her husband as they continue building Fighteria—a community dedicated to developing stronger people on and off the mats.

Carol's journey began in sales at just 16 years old, where she discovered a natural ability to connect with people. Although she grew up shy and insecure, she always believed she was meant for something greater. That desire for growth led her to continually invest in her personal and professional development through an ESL Exchange Program in the United States, Emotional Intelligence training, advanced sales education, certification as a Power of Action Speaker, and certification as a Life Coach, completing more than 50 hours of coaching training.

In 2017, Carol made the life-changing decision to participate in an exchange program in the United States. The experience expanded her perspective and ignited a lifelong commitment to personal transformation. One year later, she stepped onto the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu mats for the first time and immediately fell in love with the art. Through Jiu-Jitsu, she found much more than a sport—she discovered confidence, discipline, resilience, and a deeper belief in herself.

Her life took another remarkable turn when she met Professor Gleidson "PoneY" Cutis. Their shared faith, values, and passion for serving others brought them together, and in January 2019 they opened Fighteria.

Today, she is grateful to work alongside him in growing Fighteria while encouraging others to embrace perseverance, trust God's timing, and become the strongest version of themselves—physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.
