This week in our Heros of the Old Testament series, Phil reflects on the story of Noah, focusing on Genesis 6:9–22.

Noah is described as “a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God.” In a world filled with corruption and violence, Noah stood apart by choosing obedience and trust in God. His faith led him to build an ark, following God's call—even when it made no sense to the world around him.

This reflection challenges us to consider how we can live with that same kind of righteousness and trust today, especially when doing so sets us apart.

Throughout this series, we are exploring the lives of five key Old Testament figures: Joseph, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, and Moses. Their stories help us understand what it means to walk by faith, follow God’s calling, and live courageously in challenging times.

We began our journey with Joseph, tracing his remarkable story from youthful dreams to redemptive leadership in Egypt:

Week 1: Joseph the Dreamer (Genesis 37:1–11) – How God began speaking through Joseph's dreams.

Week 2: God with Us (Genesis 39) – Joseph’s integrity and God’s presence in the midst of suffering.

Week 3: God Opens Doors (Genesis 41:1–36) – Joseph’s rise to power and God’s provision through trial.

Week 4: The Big Reveal (Genesis 44–45) – A moving act of forgiveness and reconciliation.

These reflections have reminded us that God is always working, even through the unexpected, and that trust in Him shapes how we respond to life’s challenges.

So far in the series, we’ve looked at major moments in Joseph’s life, taken from the book of Genesis:

Week 1 – Joseph: God With Us (Genesis 39)
Gemma reflected on Joseph’s time in Egypt as a slave and prisoner, reminding us that even in hardship, God never leaves us.

Week 2 – Joseph: God Opens Doors (Genesis 41:1–36)
Anne explored how God prepared Joseph for leadership, showing us how faithfulness in waiting can lead to new opportunities.

Week 3 – Joseph: The Big Reveal (Genesis 44–45)
This week, J shares a deeply emotional and moving reflection. After years of separation and testing, Joseph reveals his identity to his brothers. Rather than seeking revenge, he chooses forgiveness and restoration—acknowledging God’s hand in every step of his journey.

Next week, we begin looking at the life of Noah, asking what his obedience, faith, and endurance can teach us about listening to God and trusting Him through uncertain times.

Welcome to this week’s reflection in our Heros of the Old Testament series, where we explore the lives and faith journeys of key figures from the Bible—Joseph, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, and Moses. Through their stories, we seek to understand how God worked through ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things, and what lessons we can apply to our own walk of faith.

Over the past two weeks, we’ve been journeying through the life of Joseph. We began with Joseph the Dreamer (Genesis 37:1–11), reflecting on how God spoke to Joseph through dreams and planted purpose in him from a young age. Last week, in God With Us (Genesis 39), we saw God’s presence with Joseph through betrayal and hardship, even as he was falsely accused and imprisoned.

This week, Anne continues the story with Genesis 41:1–36, where Joseph is suddenly brought before Pharaoh to interpret a troubling dream. After years of obscurity, God opens a door no one else could. It’s a pivotal moment that changes the course of Joseph’s life—and that of an entire nation.

Joseph’s journey shows us that God opens doors at the right time, even when we’ve experienced long seasons of waiting. His story reminds us to remain faithful, to trust that God is preparing us behind the scenes, and to be ready when the opportunity comes.

As we reflect on Joseph’s experience, we ask ourselves: Where might God be at work in our waiting? How can we stay faithful and hopeful in seasons of uncertainty?

Each week in this series, we delve into the lives of these Old Testament heros to discover how their faith, challenges, and obedience can guide and strengthen our own discipleship today.
