When I read the account of Christmas in the Bible, I see certain groups of people there. Some were ready for Jesus while others were not. But why weren’t they ready for Jesus? I want to talk about three reasons why most of the people in the biblical Christmas story, and many of us today, are Not Ready for Jesus.
Christmas truly is about gifts, but it isn’t about the things that are concealed under the tree, it was the thing that was revealed ON the tree. What Jesus was born to do, and what He fulfilled on the cross, was to bring us a new and exciting gift.
We are in the middle of what many songs try to tell us is the most wonderful time of the year, but for many people, it is the opposite of that. The holiday season is for many people the most difficult time of the year. The Bible provides a road map to gratitude that we can follow no matter how difficult our current circumstances.
Jesus commanded that we take part in communion to remember what He did for us and to be reminded that He is coming back for us. The Greek word for this is Eucharist and it literally means thanksgiving. What gifts are represented by communion?
How satisfied are you with your life? Where would you rank it on a scale from 1 to 10? Are you consumed with passion for the work of the Lord? If we're going to be followers of Jesus, we must be different. We are only one decision from different.
All too often in our lives we find ourselves empty. Sometimes we don't realize it, but we notice the symptoms. We need to make sure we are being filled with the right thing. What are you filling yourself with?
The Bible says in the last days the majority of people will lose their love, but it will be so gradual and so subtle that they may not even realize what's happening. It's time to check the gauge on your love. Are you running low on your love for God and others? Has it changed since you became a believer? What do we do about this?
