Eternal Now: When we have eyes to see and ears to hear, God speaks words of deliverance to us. God sees our affliction and gives heed to our cries. God is aware of our sufferings.

God often comes as refining, empowering, convicting, transforming fire: Exodus 3, Exodus 24: 17 in the giving of the Law at Mt Sinai; 1 Kings 18: 38 when Elijah calls on God and a devouring fire consumes the altar; and on Pentecost as described in Acts 2. God comes as fire to burn off impurities by convicting us, converting us and telling us the truth about our lives. Confession and repentance follow (Peter: repent and be baptized)
