Have you ever wondered what it means to truly follow Jesus? In the first century, disciples would literally walk so closely behind their teacher that they were covered in the dust from his sandals. Luke 6 tells us that Jesus spent an entire night in prayer before choosing His twelve closest disciples. These men were not chosen because of their knowledge or qualifications. In fact, they were far from perfect. Take Simon Peter. He’s famous for speaking out of turn, doubting, and even denying Jesus. But Jesus gave him the nickname “rock,” not for who he was, but for who he would become. Despite his many failures, Peter would go on to become a foundational leader in the early church. Remember, Jesus doesn’t call perfect people. He calls those who are willing.
