Welcome to the Cracking Content Podcast, helping entrepreneurs to amplify their expertise through storytelling, content and PR, so they can get more sales and make a bigger impact. Every business has a story to tell. Don't be afraid to tell it.
In this episode, I'm going to be talking about five ways to save time creating content. So this is one of the biggest problems people talk about when it comes to creating content, particularly if you're a solopreneur or run a small team. People are like, "It's just taking me too long to create content." And they feel overwhelmed and feel like they have to be on every channel three times a day because they see other people in their world doing that.
{1:02} So the first thing is, you need to get organised. So how can you keep track of the content process from start to finish without a schedule in place? So this is one of the mistakes that people I've worked with often do; they post in the moment. Now that can work if you've got lots of time, but if you've got a busy business as a coach or a creative entrepreneur or a product-based business, you need to have a content schedule in place so that you are highlighting the products and services that you have to sell.
{1:46} Making sure that you've got a schedule in place ensures that all your brand messaging and all the things you've got to sell are actually in your content. You wouldn't believe the amount of content audits I've done, where people actually don't use a sales call-to-action in any of their social media posts. And then they wonder why they don't have any clients, or they're not selling any products.
{2:17} If you set up a content calendar and plan your content ideas ahead of time, it means you're not wasting time. So it can also help you time block. So you can set time aside every month to plan what you're doing.
{2:38} Make time every month to map out what you're going to do. We like to plan our content in quarters. But at the moment, it's good to do a monthly check-in because things are changing so quickly that you might need to adjust or change the content you're putting out, depending on what's happening in the UK or wherever you're living.
{3:05} The next tip is to streamline your research process. Do you sometimes have a hundred tabs open on your computer? That's just too many things going on at the same time. The same thing can happen when you're researching a topic. So stay on task and save time by looking at your own analytics and also your competitors to see what topics are trending.
{3:56} One of my favourite and most easy things to do is to actually ask your audience. If you've got a good email list, you could send out a survey asking people what kind of products they would like or giving feedback on an existing product or service that you offer your clients.
{5:15} Think hard about what channels you want to focus on. It's better to do one or two really well than try and be everywhere all the time.
{5:26} Did you know that businesses that regularly publish a blog see 67% more leads from their inbound efforts over companies that don't?
{6:09} So, rather than posting something that's not very good every day, create an excellent blog and then pull out social posts from that. And you know you are boosting your search engine optimization, sharing ideas with your customers and clients. You can also use your email newsletter to share that blog in as well.
{6:49} When it comes to promoting your content, cascade the content. So, I've talked about creating those core bits of content, like a blog or a podcast, and then think about how you can repurpose it. Create a listicle, Five Ways To Write An Excellent Blog, and then you push out those tips as well. So it is just really thinking about how you can make those core bits of content that you've created Evergreen. Evergreen is not just a tree. It's a bit of content that you can update every year that also helps people.

Ep. 033 Why You Should Join Clubhouse
Welcome to the Cracking Content Podcast, helping entrepreneurs to amplify their expertise through storytelling, content and PR, so they can get more sales and make a bigger impact. Every business has a story to tell. Don't be afraid to tell it.
In this episode, I'm going to be talking about Clubhouse, the new audio app that everyone is talking about. So unless you've been living under a rock, you will have heard about it, wanted to get an invite to it, or maybe you're completely addicted to it and you're listening to Clubhouse every day. For those of you that don't know what it is, it's considered an exclusive app, which has hit the social media world by storm. It's accumulating thousands, if not even more, of conversations every minute of every day.
{1:14} It's got only audio features so there's no video and you can enter live rooms as a fly on the wall to listen to conversations. And you can raise a hand to join the conversations, or basically go up on stage to ask the people that are up their questions.
{2:01} It is an amazing way to network and generate new followers because there's a spring fever around Clubhouse. Everybody wants to be on it. Everybody's creating rooms for people to take part in live discussions.
{2:33} I've been active on Clubhouse probably for over a month. I joined in January. And it has generated a lot more followers on the app and also followers on Instagram because you can link Instagram and Twitter to your media bio on Clubhouse. So it's definitely an interesting platform to explore, but we all have to bear in mind that platforms are made to be addictive. Clubhouse, you can run all day like a radio station, and it can detract you from creating core content that people can come back to.
{3:30} Think of it as a live networking event that you are creating a stage and inviting people to come up and talk to you and you're giving them advice and you're creating connections. You're inviting them to follow you on Instagram or to download a freebie or to DM you for more information.
{4:43} The other thing that you can do is apply for a club and that means people are immediately notified if you set up a room. There's a big backlog at the moment, apparently. So they're releasing new clubs in batches. And again, I think there's been server issues where I've tried to get on Clubhouse and couldn't host a room. So they're battling with just a huge amount of people downloading and using the app.
{5:11} I think some people have shared massive wins using the Clubhouse app, particularly for Instagram growth and selling online programs and courses, and just generally growing an audience. So it's one of those things where I think the bonuses are that you don't need to be camera ready. We all love chatting, and you can literally join a room in your pajamas.
{5:52} I've been invited to share stages and share my expertise with lots of different people. I've managed to connect with some amazing entrepreneurs and inspirational people on the platform.
{6:06} This is the time where you can get big growth and followers on Clubhouse because it's still in its heyday. They're not messing around with algorithms, they're testing it. They're getting people to figure out how it works. And some people have just got an incredible amount of followers in a very short period of time.
{7:14} One of the amazing things about Clubhouse is your bio. You get a really amazing amount of space in there to share knowledge about you and your business. So make sure that you've linked up your Instagram and your Twitter, and also that you are sharing any freebies or a call to action to join a free Facebook group.
{7.42} The other thing that's worth considering is making sure your profile pic that you use stands out, so that when you go into a room, people remember you.

Welcome to the Cracking Content Podcast, helping entrepreneurs to amplify their expertise through storytelling, content and PR, so they can get more sales and make a bigger impact. Every business has a story to tell. Don't be afraid to tell it.
In this week's episode, I am talking about guest blogging. Guest blogging is the act of writing content for another company's or media outlet's website. It's a great way of expanding your audience by sharing valuable information that is at the core of your business and also building relationships with other bloggers and businesses. It also helps with boosting your organic search engine optimization.
{1:17} While you're essentially providing content for someone else, it helps boost traffic to your own website, and this is what's key here, through external links that can increase your domain authority. Your domain authority is where you rank in organic search.
{2:15} The higher the domain authority you link to, the more it's it will boost you in organic search, so you want to connect to high authority websites. This makes guest blogging a brilliant, mutually beneficial experience. The web host receives fresh, high-quality content, and the guest blogger increases brand awareness, gains credibility and ranks higher in search. What's not to love about generating a guest blogging strategy as part of your outreach?
{2:41} Choosing who to work with can take some research. Some businesses prefer to guest blog with partners or have a co-marketing strategy where you guest blog for each other. Others simply find through extensive online searches that they can start finding people that accept guest bloggers. The most important thing is to approach bloggers who share your niche and business values and are a respected member of the community.
{3:13} What should you look for before you agree to guest blogging? Ask these questions, does the blog or blogger have active followers that engage with their content through likes and comments? Do they post regularly on social media? Do they have a high domain authority that would increase your SEO ranking?
{4:30} There might be someone who's got an established business and website with a good domain authority that would love a guest blog from you because it means less work for them. Guest blogging is important because it's a wider part of getting yourself known. If one of your goals for this year is to grow your audience, this is a great way to do it, particularly if you know your ideal customer likes reading blogs.
{4:54} To conclude, guest blogging is a great way to get more visible and grow your audience. It will also boost your brand awareness and credibility, and connect with businesses that really matter to you and that share the same values as you.

Welcome to the Cracking Content Podcast, helping entrepreneurs to amplify their expertise through storytelling, content and PR, so they can get more sales and make a bigger impact. Every business has a story to tell. Don't be afraid to tell it.
In this episode, I'm going to explore why it's so important to have blogging as part of your content strategy. So for those of you that might be new to content marketing, a blog is shared from your website, and it's an informal way of talking to your customers, and it can cover a huge range of topics. Blogs can range from a post about why you set up your business to topics that are timely and relevant in your sector. And guess what? A blog isn't about you; it's about your customer.
{1:41} So when you're thinking about planning out your blogs for the next quarter, which I would highly recommend, think about the pain points of your customers and how you and your business or your company solves them.
{1:45} A blog is a really easy way to communicate, connect, and share information with your customers. It comes from your website and is content owned by you. I share this a lot, which is why I am a massive fan of creating core content for your business. You own your website, no one can shut it down, no one can close your account. I know lots of people that have had Instagram accounts, Facebook ad accounts shut down and suddenly you've lost your audience to sell to. So that's one very good reason to blog from your website.
{3:24} Every time you write a post, it is one more index page on your website. This means it's one more opportunity for you to show up in search engines and drive traffic to your website in organic search.
{3:49} The more traffic you have, the more customers are reaching your site, which gives you the opportunity to convert those leads into sales. You can do this by using a lead-generating call to action at the bottom of your blog. Offer them a free e-book guide or cheat sheet, which convinces your reader to give up their contact details, their email address. So you can reach them via an email marketing campaign.
{4:47} The key to content marketing is answering your customers' problems and creating conversations with them. Conversations lead to conversions, and blogs enable you to do this. Not only that, but you can answer things like frequently asked questions.
{5:53} Your customers can find out more about you and your products and services. Your blogs build trust with them. And again, by sharing on social media, you start those all important conversations, because we're not just broadcasters. The point of social media is that it's social and you create those conversations.
{6:02} Blogs also help you share your brand story and mission. A clear blogging strategy will make you clear about who your ideal customer is, what they need help with and what they want to learn.

Welcome to the Cracking Content Podcast, helping entrepreneurs to amplify their expertise through storytelling, content and PR, so they can get more sales and make a bigger impact. Every business has a story to tell. Don't be afraid to tell it.
In this episode, I'm talking about creating intentional content. So are you trying too hard to produce perfect content? Are you struggling to keep it up week after week? This is something I talk about a lot, content overwhelm, people get really stuck on a hamster wheel of either production or they get completely stopped in their tracks with procrastination, procrasta-posting, they're spending too long formulating the perfect Instagram post or the perfect Facebook post, worrying overly about what the reaction might be to it. The truth is, it's consistency that's key.
{01:30} It's much better to post good content consistently than perfect content inconsistently.
{01:44} I am a massive fan of content planning. I host regular content planning parties and you can join them too. They're usually every quarter because if you create content with purpose and you have a plan that you can stick to, it doesn't mean you don't deviate from it, because everyone often deviates from a plan, but you have a structure to fall back on.
{02:06} Being intentional with your content is absolutely transformative, once you get clear about what you want to do.
{02:57} So focus on these three core elements to inspire and plan your content strategy, before you take action. So think about your why. Before diving into creating content, ask yourself, what is your primary motivation? Perhaps you want to acquire more customers, drive sales or simply increase brand awareness.
{03:28} Once you get clear on your goals, you will have a better idea of what content you'd like to share and on what platform and who will engage in it.
{03:53} It would be a lie to say that this is doable in one singular blog post, video or email, but think ahead and decide what value you can provide over a longer period of time.
{04:10} So the next thing to think about is the how. Once you've decided what your content is and why you're creating it, it's up to you to choose how you will share it with the world.
{04:49} Think about your business industry and choose one to three primary methods that you think will work for you. You don't have to be everywhere, when it comes to content creation. Choose the channels where you know your ideal customer is, where they hang out and really think about what content they like consuming.
{05:06} So then the next step is to actually execute your content strategy. Once you have a vision for success, it's time to get the ball rolling. So brainstorm your content. Creating content is all about brainstorming ideas that align with your overall strategy.
{05:28} You can think of ideas from scratch at first, and then after time you can tap into old successes, so repurpose content that's already worked for you. You can find some posts from the past that have received high engagement and simply turn them into something new. It's the perfect way to please an audience and also save time for yourself.
{06:47} The next stage is the one we've been waiting for. You've done all the hard work. It's time to share your content with the world. So be intentional with publishing your content, think about date and timings. During a working day, for example, people are much more likely to be online and engage with your content at the beginning and the end of the day. That's why insights are so useful so make sure you're tracking engagement and the times of day that your consumers are looking at your content.
{07:19} The final stage of the process is tracking your results. Are they aligning with your initial goal? Has it been successful and why? Use this to determine your next content move. What will you keep the same, and more importantly, what will you change?

Welcome to the Cracking Content podcast, helping entrepreneurs to amplify that expertise through storytelling, content and PR so they can get more sales and make a bigger impact. Every business has a story to tell, don't be afraid to tell it.
In this episode, I'm going to be talking about five fabulous ways to boost your media coverage. So, that amazing moment has come, your story has been picked up by the press. You are probably pinching yourself a little bit and wondering how you can get more people to consume this important bit of media coverage that you've achieved for your business. Receiving press coverage can take some time, and it takes a lot of hard work, but it is often only the first step in getting your message out into the world.
{01:20} One of the mistakes I see when entrepreneurs get media coverage is that they don't make the most of it. They might not share the link on their social channels enough. You don't have just to share it on the day that you get it; you can share it multiple times.
{01:48} So if you have a message and you want to share it with the world, the best place is to share it on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and all the other channels available to you. Utilise hashtags to your advantage and even thank the journalist or platform who shared your story.
{02:11} Share it with people too. People love to share people's success. Sometimes we're so busy trying to promote ourselves online that we forget to tap into our internal network.
{02:30} You can even promote your content with clients too. Send it out in a newsletter. It will remind them why they chose to do business with you in the first place.
{02:46} Utilise the logo of the platform your coverage was featured on. Place it on your website or use it for promotional marketing materials. It can work well on a Facebook banner or a LinkedIn banner too. This is a great way to increase your credibility, especially if it is a well-known and reputable brand.
{03:19} So reference the coverage wherever you can. You've made it into the press, so make sure you talk about it. Add it to the news or blog section of your website to update your audience on your latest happenings or include it in your email newsletter.
{04:48} So, amplifying your media coverage is all about leveraging the platforms you're active on, talking to the people you know and using your past content to your advantage to generate more content. Sometimes all you need is a little personal touch and a whole lot of sharing, and you can get your message out there to an audience wider than its original platform and don't forget to keep on sharing that content.

Welcome to the Cracking Content Podcast, helping entrepreneurs to amplify their expertise through storytelling, content, and PR, so they can get more sales and make a bigger impact. Every business has a story to tell. Don't be afraid to tell it.
In these episodes, I am talking to content creators that have built businesses in their own way, using different types of content marketing. So I'm welcoming Lauretta Ihonor who is the founder of the amazing self-development platform, The Ambition Plan.
Lauretta: {00:58} The Ambition Plan is a digital platform. It's essentially for Type As, women who don't want to settle, who, I guess, outwardly have it all.
Claire: {02:03} I know you've got a very big following on Instagram for The Ambition Plan. How did that come about? How did you build this really big and loyal following?
Lauretta: {02:15} It's a fortuitous accident, but it's an accident in terms of it was an accident at the start and I've nurtured it and built on that. But when I talk to people about it, I say it's really two things. It's having the clarity of who I was trying to focus on, and just being authentic.
Lauretta: {02:48} I think I always came from an authentic place. I knew exactly who I was speaking to, which were women like myself. Everything's based on my own backstory.
Lauretta: {04:27} I jumped through the hoops and it felt very inauthentic. I didn't really do webinars that much, but I did things like PDF lead magnets, three day challenges, masterclasses, and all the stuff you do to get people in the top of your funnel. But as I said, it just sat uncomfortably with me and over the last year, I've just thrown that out and just focused on being authentic.
Lauretta: {04:50} Do you have a problem? Here's a solution. If the solution is worth money, pay for it. If it's not, have it for free. And if you don't like it, go somewhere else. That's literally how I operate, and the right people get it, and the people who don't get it aren't the right people, and I wish them all the best.
Lauretta: {06:35} I sit down and I say, "What does the person want to read about? Let me write that topic." Because that's what they're Googling.
Claire: {06:59} Obviously my background's journalism, so it's all about the story. It's all about writing about what your customer or community need to hear. And I think if you are creating regular content like that and publishing regularly, then yeah, you'll get found on organic search.
Lauretta: {10:22} I've never filled my social grids with pictures of me. It's not what I do as a person in general. So I'm not going to do that for my business, because it doesn't feel right. It's not where my interest lies, and it relates to what we said previously. I can't keep it up long term because it's not authentic.
Connect with Lauretta:
As a doctor, entrepreneur, journalist, TV producer, nutritional consultant and one-time fashion stylist, Lauretta is a serial self-reinventor, driven by a search for her life's true purpose. Two years ago, she founded the self-development digital platform The Ambition Plan (theambitionplan.com), which has since grown into a global online community of over 300,000 women. Her motto? Welcome to the Cracking Content Podcast, helping entrepreneurs to amplify their expertise through storytelling, content, and PR so they can get more sales and make a bigger impact. Every business has a story to tell. Don't be afraid to tell it.
In this episode, I'm going to be talking about why writing a press release is good for your business. If you want to share the story of your business with the world, press release writing, believe it or not, might be the best way to start.
{00:43} The purpose of the press release is to generate publicity towards your product or service. It has the potential to deliver great results for any kind of business, no matter how big or small. However, sometimes it's hard to know what to expect during the process.
{01:31} I've had thousands of press releases land in my inbox, and I hate to say it, but a lot of them ended up being deleted.
{02:10} So the first point is it builds trust and authority. So for small and medium-sized businesses in particular, press releases can give valuable exposure.
{02:56} It's a vote of confidence from a reputable outside source that will encourage others to land on your website and perhaps even buy from you.
{03:14} Sending a press release to industry specific journalists can boost your exposure to your target audience.
{04:48} For example, I was working with a product-based business that got featured in Refinery29, which has a global reach of 249 million.
{05:52} When press releases are accepted and translated to media coverage, there is often a high opportunity for backlinks.
{06:31} So to conclude press release writing is crucial for getting your business out in the world while marketing strategies, such as social media content and email campaigns are beneficial for building customer communities, press releases expand your potential even further, building credibility behind your brand and importantly, driving traffic to your site.

Welcome to the Cracking Content Podcast, helping entrepreneurs to amplify their expertise through storytelling, content, and PR so they can get more sales and make a bigger impact. Every business has a story to tell. Don't be afraid to tell it.
In this episode I'm going to be talking about getting clear on your brand's story. So the word 'Story' conveys a lot of different meanings. When I think of a story, it usually involves characters, plots, settings, and the framework of a beginning, middle, and end. But the way in which we tell stories has been revolutionized quite dramatically.
[1:42] The first key point consumers need to know about your business is who you are. What made you think about the idea for your business?
[2:17] Next, visualise. Allow your consumers to see how you've transformed.
[3:24] Have a target. Successful businesses know what kind of consumer or client or customer they want to target.
[3:49] Do you want to create bold, disruptive content or something more simple and to the point?
[4:41] Getting clear on your brand story will help you create compelling content, which creates connections and those all-important conversations with your potential clients and customers

Welcome to the Cracking Content Podcast, helping entrepreneurs to amplify their expertise through storytelling, content, and PR so they can get more sales and make a bigger impact. Every business has a story to tell. Don't be afraid to tell it.
In this episode, I'm going to talk about how to get more visible in 2021. As a business, visibility is super important. Not only because it feels good to have prospective consumers, customers, and clients interested in our content, but because it drives traffic and increases your chances of sales. It can be easy to get lost inside our own head within our own business and not focus on the things that are going to move us forward. So to be successful, we must remember to get our content out in the world. And on top of that, you need to be generating content that creates conversations and connections. There is no point creating content for content's sake and also just broadcasting and not monitoring conversations or getting people into Messenger, talking to people in their DMs, or getting calls booked. However you like to do business and generate sales, that is the next step.
[1:37] People can spend so long on social media that they forget to do a call to action.
[2:02} The most important thing you can do is share your story. Remember to put a face to your name. Consumers love relatable and personal content.
[2:39] Audiences like to hear about your failures and your triumphs.
[3:40] Build an email list. It's really important that you have your own email list.
[5:06] Start networking. Running a business at its core is about the connections you make and the people you know.
[6:52] So definitely check out the new audio app Clubhouse, get yourself on there, get an invite and start exploring it. It's brilliant way to get visible in 2021.
[7:22] If you're not using video, you're really missing out. Facebook Live gets a much bigger reach on Facebook.
[9:13] Last but not least, create a visibility strategy. Make sure it's a high priority goal for 2021!
