There's a beer problem brewing

Millions of gallons of beer in bars, restaurants, and stadiums shuttered by the coronavirus are going stale as the beer industry grapples with excess supply. The shutdown happened just before St. Patrick’s Day and March Madness, two huge money makers for the industry. The National Beer Wholesalers Association estimates there are 10 million gallons of spoiling, unsold ale — about one million kegs — that could cost beer makers up to $1 billion. Boston Beer, which makes Sam Adams, says it’s recouping some losses by turning expired beer into ethanol.
