It is a beautifully colorful and chilly fall morning here in NH. I have a lovely tree outside my studio window that is beginning to change color. It is the most gorgeous red when it reaches peak color. Fall is in full swing as we had our first light freeze, which means the mosquitoes are going away -- and that is always a celebration.
I'd like to encourage everybody who is a listener here on these podcasts, to make sure you subscribe. I appreciate everybody that sends me notes emails about what they have been listening to what they enjoy about the show. If you wouldn't mind taking just a couple of minutes, I would appreciate your comments and reviews; it would do a lot for the show. Those can help get the show into more hands. Just go to Craig Peterson dot com slash iTunes; there you will find all of the podcasts. If you like what you hear, take a minute and leave a five-star review for me and comment on what you think about the show.
Anyhow. Hey, this morning, I was on with Mr. JACK Heath. And jack had an interesting topic for us. We talked about the President's conversation with Ukraine and the Ukraine president, and what is it that was said what was recorded more particularly what those technologies that are out there are? So I went into that in some depth on that. Here we go with Mr. Jack Heath.

Craig Peterson here with a good morning to everybody. We are starting to see fall light conditions here in the northeast United States; the trees are turning. The one right outside my window here has begun to turn red. And it is a gorgeous red when it's in full fall mode, I guess is what you'd call it. And, and we had a light freeze, that means the mosquitoes are going to start going away. Yeah, it is turning into that six months where there are no leaves on the trees. I don't know if I'm looking forward to that or not. Anyhow. Hey, this morning, I was on with Mr. JACK Heath. And jack had an interesting topic for us. We talked about the President's conversation with Ukraine and the Ukraine president, and what is it that was said what was recorded more particularly what those technologies that are out there are? So I went into that in some depth, and I want to encourage everybody who is a listener here on podcasts as well, to make sure you subscribe, I would appreciate a five-star review from you. I appreciate everybody that sends me notes emails about what they have been listening to what they appreciate. But if you wouldn't mind taking just a couple of minutes, I would appreciate it would do a lot for the show. And to get it into more hands but if you go to Craig Peterson dot com slash iTunes, that'll take you to the Apple site, where they have all of their podcasts, and it'll allow you to hopefully leave a five-star review for me and comment on what you think about it. So please take a minute anyhow. Here we go with Mr. JACK Heath.

One of the questions I had and our next guest and contributor Craig Peterson, our tech talk guy, might be a good person to pull into this because we've not had any rehearsal where he did not know where I was going with this. And Justin, you and I were talking during the break. You think about the older days, like when Richard Nixon and that was when the impeachment process happened and the Watergate there were tapes. And they had the old fashioned tape recordings. Right. Craig Peterson, they had the old fashioned tape recorders that record individual conversations for a historical reason or otherwise correct. Yeah, absolutely. So in this day and age, Craig, is anyone sort of broken down in this current story? With Ukraine? The President's conversation, whistleblowers? Someone recorded the President's conversation, and they produce a transcript. And is that the intelligence community that was listening in on the Ukraine leader, Mr. Zielinski? Or was everything call out of the White House recorded? Was the President on the secure line to the White House switchboard? Was he on a cell phone? I mean, where you see what I'm asking?
Craig 2:53
Yeah, I do. And those are really great questions. Any call going in and out of the United States is typically monitored and maybe even recorded. In the case of the President's call from what we're understanding right now. The notes that have been released, what's been called a transcript, is not a transcript. But were actual notes that were recorded by someone. Is there a tape somewhere? Well, yeah, there probably is almost certainly there is. And of course, it's not tape. And in this age of the deep fakes, who knows what's going to end up happening? But yeah, we don't at this point appear to have a smoking gun. It's kind of he said, she said, and here's my note.
Jack 3:38
I mean, I would think, Craig, and I'm, you know, I know it's hard for people not to be political for a moment. Everyone's picking sides and so divisive. But it's like, I'm just sort of fun thought for a minute because Justin and I, Justin, can we say this without getting like a Wikipedia breach? When we recently interviewed the President of the United States, he called in, and when he called in, and the White House called in, there was an echo in the background, and, and I was okay with it, but he didn't like it. And he's the boss. So he goes, I'm going to hang up and call you back. Right? Remember? Yeah, he went through the White House switchboard. And then he said, I'm just gonna call you direct from my desk at work, I find that works a lot better that way. Actually, when he said, it works a lot better. We were in the middle of that because he didn't like how it sounded. So he was talking about a different line. My point is this unrelated to Ukraine, you would think the president united states has to be able to talk with people like a business leader, family member, you know, just call and say, Hey, what's going on and be a human being at some point, even though the President have a conversation, right. I mean, former presidents, I would just imagine, Presidents have all kinds of conversations and have to be able to do that with anyone from a confidant, a friend, an advisor, a former business friend, leader, Celebrity, not you know, you know, I'm saying, and I just wonder on this, you can call was this where we listening? And this is what a lot of people don't know, we listen in a lot the United States, and maybe you can talk about this technology, we've listened in on the German Chancellor's conversations, and what talks about illusion? We are alleged, how, like, you know, other countries, Russia and everything we listen into that we bought it to the Israeli phone conversations and elections. I mean, come on. I mean, this is done all the time. But I just was wondering on this exact call, was it I will be listening in where we will we eavesdropping on the Ukraine leader, and they picked up this conversation? Where did that where did this come from?
Craig 5:26
Well, there's probably a dozen or more copies of the conversation somewhere actual tapes of this thing? Well, you obviously not physical tapes. But yeah, there's something called the Five Eyes. And these are five countries. It's the United States, Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand, who all spy on their own citizens. Yes, the United States as part of this, and they all work together, because in some cases, they can spy on them domestically, but they can spy on them when they make calls around the world. So you can bet that these five eyes have conversations recorded, including of our president, unless they are encrypted. And there is a whole bunch of flak that's going on right now with Facebook, you might have heard about this, and Zuckerberg and he wants to be able to allow you to have encrypted conversations. You have WhatsApp, you might remember President Obama when he was elected, he had his blackberry and he wanted to use that. And he couldn't because it wasn't secure. So yeah, the President has secure communications. And they can communicate securely at the highest levels. Typically, there's something called a skiff involved, which is a room that is soundproof and also, there's no radiation to get in or out. In other words, no cell phone signals can penetrate it. And you're not supposed to bring recording equipment into one of these gifts. So in those cases, yes, the President could actually absolutely have a completely classified and private conversation with someone on the other end. But on the other end, they have to have a way of having the secure conversation as well. And that means both sides have to be using the same types of encryption, etc. But in this day and age of you know, you mentioned President Trump calling in and hearing an echo and he didn't like it. And we think about the movies where you hear click on the line, or there's some sort of a weird echo. When we want to monitor to spy to listen in to record conversations. There is no longer clicked there. It's not quieter than it had been before. There's no Echo, we can record it. And to answer your question, jack, there's no question that the call was made in the clear, there's no question that there's a two dozen, maybe more countries that have copies of the audio. And on top of that, we do have our State Department and various spying agencies who do listen in on purpose, just to make sure they understand where the President is going with things when it comes to our foreign relations.
Jack 8:13
Good stuff. All right, Craig, and you always have more I know, but on that one, I thought I'd catch you with something that I think some people might be asking, you know how this stuff is done, or where does it come from? All right, Craig Peterson to tech talk. I know you had a nother subject but we'll catch that next week. Thank you, Craig.

Do you remember what a joke Apple Maps was? QG remember this, you're listening to Craig Peterson here on WGAN. And online at Craig Peterson calm? Well, you might have heard some of the stories drew stories about Apple Maps back when it first came out. And one of the stories has to do with a couple in Australia using Apple Maps to get somewhere. And it took that couple way out into the middle of the desert, and basically stranded them there. So bad, bad news, they really got a black guy. And the rumor is that Steve Jobs got all of the people who are in charge of the Apple Maps project into one room and ask them why there was this failure, why Apple Maps was so terrible, and fired everybody, everybody that was shared in that room. And that's the rumor. And I have seen a few times different articles that actually explained that yes, indeed, this was true, he really did do that. Yeah, so I'm not sure I would want to be, I'd want to be in that room, if I'm pretty sure I would not want to be in that room when you come right down to it. But those types of things happen. And over the seven years that have passed, since Apple Maps was the laughingstock of the world, they have gone to the point now, where there really are replacing Google Maps on the iPhone. Remember, when you're using ways or Google Maps, both owned by Google, they're tracking you, and they're tracking you, they'll give you some helpful information sometimes about hey, here's some things you can do in the city, here's some restaurants you might want to go to, etc, etc. But now, Apple Maps has those features. And even more, Apple decided to not buy data from third parties, which they attributed to be some of the problems they were having with Apple Maps. And I have seen at least two, maybe three occasions, personally, an apple map car driving around, and it was very busy looking at all the goings on around it and doing the old scanning thing. It had the LIDAR on it and, you know, very, very impressive technology that they were using, very similar, again, to what Google Maps had. Now, Apple has not done as much as Google has, when it comes to detailed maps and some of the other countries, but they have really leapfrogged Google, when it comes to some of the technology for looking where you're at where you're going be able to see a true picture of where you're going. And it has really upped its game. So you might want to have a look at it. Again, if you haven't used Apple Maps for a while. It's got some cool new changes as a part of iOS 13. You can do the navigation, of course, get turn by turn directions to swipe hop, you can share your eta, if the other guy has iOS 13 that has some very cool features. If they don't, it'll just send text messages. If there are changes. It's got the look around feature. So a bunch of new, very cool features over there. The father of identity theft, this is from dark reading, great website for some of his security stuff. But this guy, his name's James Jackson, he's a 58 year old Memphis resident. And he was using the identities of deceased people to steal money from banks, and from the estates of these various dead people. And he was just convicted of 13 counts of male frog aggravated identity theft, access, device fraud and theft of mail. He's now facing 30 years in prison, his hearing for sentencing is going to be December 13. If this is huge here, here, in one case, you authorize the sale of more than $340,000 from an individual's investment accounts. That's that's basically probably someone's entire retirement, which gets us to, again, understanding security. But before I talk a little bit about this quick start again, I want to get into this because this happens more often than it should. This is a vengeful, IT administrator. Now this has happened before it will happen again. In fact, it's happened far too often. In this case, this 40 year old was hired back in 2016. And he was apparently tipped off that his employment with this company he was working for was going to be terminated and and so he chose to leave his mark
on these resources the company had before he left. Now this company was hosting their software, their services on Amazon Web Services, which a lot of companies are doing nowadays. People look at AWS is a panacea that they can use cloud services and everything's going to be wonderful that everything's going to be backed up, it's going to be online, it's going to be reliable, it's going to be cheaper. That is not always the case. In fact, it is often not the case. Well, according to an affidavit that was filed in this particular case. This guy's probing the network began on around December 7 2016, and continued after he was terminated. That is really the very big deal here continued after he was terminated. Us prosecutors said that not only did the Maryland based engineer sabotage the US Army chaplain corps servers by deleting all administrator, and user accounts with the exception of his own, but he also changed domain name who is information to seize control. He this engineer obviously did not have the legal authority to do it, but he was still able to contact in this case, it was GoDaddy switch registration data for the chaplain corps net domain to Anthony enterprises. In addition, 19 students have a chaplaincy resource management course taking place in Jackson, South Carolina, were unable to access the network or their accounts and got their training disrupted. That's when they started a real investigation. So he had unlawfully shared property information belonging to federated it went on a file deletion spree, just see where I'm going with this, you understand some of this stuff. downloaded data included AWS service account information, network diagrams, backup system images, known as Amazon machine images were also downloaded and shared. This information has been given an estimated value over $1 million by the engineers former company. After termination, he this guy was linked to the full wipe of a test server belonging to the US Army web application system. And be because there were no backups, the system had to be rebuild from scratch, prosecutors say there is probable cause of the engineer sent the data deleting command, given he was the one with sole access at the time you remember, he deleted the accounts. This is all an article from ZD net that I have up on my website as well. A total of over 37,000 brute force attacks later launched against the same system have also been attributed to him. He has been sentenced and will spend the next two years in prison. So insider threats is what we're talking about here. And this is a constant worry, it's fear for the Enterprise's for businesses of all sizes, government in this case, but I have seen this with other businesses as well. You have to maintain the concept of least privilege. And the idea there is that you only give people the amount of privilege that they need for their vol roles. And I'm going to be doing some training on this as well. It's basically the concept of giving them the right access to the right information at the right time. But here's where you start running into problems. IT administrators and engineers require more access than then average member of the staff. So it's easy enough to say well, the sales guys should not have access to the accounting information. Right. So that makes sense to you. makes sense to me. But how about the IT administrators, the guys that have to run the machines do the updates to the installs? Right there are ways to handle that but it becomes very, very, very complicated very quickly. And we are talking about huge costs here the Panama on 2018 costume insider threats report estimated that the average business may suffer losses of up to almost $9 million a year due to insider threats. So this is a very very big thing. It is one of the things we will get into some big detail on and one of these upcoming courses will be offering some master classes on that. But I got to point you again I have never given this away. This has always been a paid product 32 pages long and it is a quick start guide for security. It goes through stepping stones. It goes through all kinds of information key points for every small business hardware, software, anti malware, software, passwords, password management, everything. So this I am giving away for free Believe me This is some of my best stuff, bar none. And it's the sort of thing I usually include with my courses that are purchased. So I'm giving it to you for free today. So what you need to do if you want to get a copy of this is you need to go right now to Craig peterson.com slash Quick Start. It's all one word. So you just going to type into your web browser Craig Peterson calm. And then the slash just the forward slash Craig Peterson com slash Quick Start QUICKSTART Craig Pietersen com slash Quick Start, you are going to love it, because I tell you what to do in there, it's a quick start, it's a quick touch, it's a high level, but it's going to let you know all of the things you should be doing in your small business, it is going to be useful for home people as well. But it really is aimed at small businesses aimed at the people like me, who have been an entrepreneur who've been running a small business, maybe we started it ourselves, maybe we inherited it from our parents who had built it, and we made it bigger. This is for you. If you are someone who's worried about losing your retirement, because so much of it's caught up in your business, and you're afraid that if your business gets hacked, you will go out of business, which is true in the majority of cases, if you business gets hacked, you will be out of business in six months or less. And I just saw some stats the other day saying that many businesses I think it was like 30 or 40% of the businesses that are going to go out of business because of a hack file for bankruptcy The day after the hack. Okay, so if you're a business that's afraid of that if you lose sleep at night, because you don't know if the right things being done for the security in your small business, this is for you. If you are not sure if your IT people are doing the right thing and you've got a bigger organization with an IT department, this is for you and it is available for free. You go right now to Craig peterson.com. Slash Quick Start. That's where you'll find it Craig peterson.com slash switch Quick Start q UI ck s ta RT it's all one word. And it's going to ask just for your name and your email address. I'll be sending you my weekly newsletter with all kinds of tips on what's happening this week. things you can do and you'll find out all my other free offers and the man Do I have a lot of them.
Hey Craig Peterson here on WGAN and online at Craig Peterson dot com. I'm wasn't sure if I was clear about this. But the main reason I started talking about my password special report in the last segment was that you should change your password right away if you're using any of the Zynga products, but most particularly if you use Words with Friends, because so much data was apparently stolen, and it's a bad thing. Okay, so again, the password special report you can get at Craig Peterson comm slash subscribe, slash subscribe. Alright, so let's get down to this. This is kind of cool. We of course had Apple's big announcements last month, and they announced that brand new, very cool iPhone 11. Now, I would not bother upgrading to it. But man, does it have professional photography features, and you probably aren't aware of this. But the latest beta of iOS 13. That isn't out yet. iOS 13 is out obviously, right? You probably have it, I certainly have it. So iOS 13 is out there. So here's the trick.
We were talking about the iOS 13 stuff. They have some new features in this beta, using the iPhone 11th camera, some features that cameras had that were not released yet. So pay attention to that, I think it's going to be kind of cool. So let's talk about 12 new Alexa features to up your Amazon Echo game because Amazon had their big event, which they do. And it is kind of a fall event. It's a couple of weeks after Apple's event. And Amazon as usual, announced a whole bunch of new echo products. Now the Amazon Echo is really kind of owning the industry right now. And a lot of people know what as Alexa. And I have a number of these devices. And I really do like them. But they've got the echo auto, the Echo, the gen three Echo Dot and the echo sub as well as a whole bunch of new hardware. Now I we have the Amazon Echo, I think it's the first generation might be the second and it's got the screen on it, we use it to talk to one of our grandkids who lives out of state so she can call us we can call her. In fact, you can use it to make phone calls as well. But they have a new one called Alexa guard. And this is a feature that makes your Echo listen for window breaks or activated alarms. And if it's triggered, it sends you there's alert and let some listen to a snippet of the sound. I think that is really cool. fact I'm going to try and see what happens if I turn that on. That's something that could run locally on the machine, I'm sure doesn't really have to send it up to the cloud until it's going to send you the little tidbit. So along with a hardware announcements last week, the big question people are asking is what is up next when it comes to Alexa? So Alexa, tell me what you heard. And why did you do that? If you use the Amazon Alexa much, you know, sometimes it doesn't understand what you're saying. And so you have to ask it, tell me what you heard. Now you can, because it'll, it'll play back what it heard. And that actually helps you quite a bit to understand what is going on. Right? So she'll go ahead and share what she heard you say sometimes it it seems like a small addition, but it's going really add a whole bunch of clarity for you. Another one that's going to be very helpful is why did you do that. And that's going to have Alexa, explain why it performed any action at all. So if all of a sudden the music starts to play, you know, or somebody on the radio says Alexa like I have been, and then wakes it up. And then it starts to listen, and then it tries to run a command. You can ask it you can say why did you do that? And she'll tell you, which I think is absolutely fantastic. Now they've got a new feature that is really going to help you this is an auto delete. A lot of us have been worried about the voice recordings that she keeps. And you can tell Alexa now to delete voice recordings every three or 18 months. And you can also tell her to delete what you just said or delete everything that you have said. So it that makes it really easy. So just say bye, delete what I just said, or delete everything I've said today. And you have to go into the Alexa app in order to turn on these wider ranging deletion of recordings. Now remember, she's not listening all of the balance sheet, she's not transmitting everything that she hears all of the time up to the cloud, she's not recording that she's listening for her way cord, of course, you can change it, you can have her wake on the word computer. I think there's another one as well. And so some people do that I you know, I go back and forth on that. But I like the idea that all of those 32nd recordings that she has made when she woke up can be deleted. And that that's a very good thing. Now it's got this whole neural text thing now, and Alexa has echo has Amazon Echo has some really great text to speech technology. I've always been amazed. I use it to even Fang find out spelling for things. So you just ask her, how do you spell this, and she'll spell it for you. And she's she's created that right. But she also understands other languages. So you can tell her to translate French, Spanish, Hindi, and other languages now. And this, this text to speech features been improved. So it's considered to be more emotive and expressive. And it sounds better. I don't know if you've noticed or not. And beginning a little later this year, Amazon's going to be rolling out some celebrity voices for Alexa. And this is kind of cool. They're going to be based on limited recordings with a celebrity. So unlike the basic voice that it comes with, where they spend a lot of time recording just about every word that Alexa might need to say. They just basing it on a few limited ones. Now think about what we've talked about. And I've talked with Ken and Matt about a lot of that has to do with these, these deep fakes. So they're going to basically be using deep fake technology. They've got Samuel Jackson, he's the first one that's going to be released, I think that might be actually kind of funny. The guy is hilarious, sometimes. But they're going to be releasing those that'll be the first celebrity voice. And we're going to see how it works. I call it neural text to speech. It's got frustration detection now, which I think is a huge, huge win. We've seen frustration detection and some of these voice systems where you call into a company, and it talks to you and says, describe your problem until you describe your problem. And so those have been detecting frustration stress in the voice. And sometimes they'll just if you're yelling headed, it'll go ahead and transfer you to a real operator. In this case, what's going to happen if if the Alexa sense is some frustration in your voice. It's going to apologize and attempt to clarify what it is you really want and recover and learn from that. Which is ultimately going to be really good again, that's kind of a machine learning thing. They're also helping you with cooking now I've noticed that on the echo because it it has on its display. Learn how to boil water. Well. Okay, well, not that bad. Pretty darn close. Right? How do they even had one how to make toast? Are you kidding me? Right? Just some crazy things. I knew something was in the works, knew something was cooking our well it turns out, they're going to be able to help us as cook meals via a Food Network collaboration. And customers are going to be able to access recipes, take cooking classes on the echo devices and you can buy these at Amazon. And it's going to come with commands like Alexa, show cooking classes from Bobby Flay, or Alexa, how many chicken thighs Was I supposed to use Alexa, save that recipe. I use Alexa also for my shopping list at the grocery store. It's got some other things too smart screen software development kit, Alexa communications for kids. It has free time, Wi Fi control hunches. This is a new feature that they're finally releasing here until the Alexa guard upgrades as well. Well when we get back our last last section for today's segment, we talked a little bit about Apple Maps a father identity theft, and a vengeful IT admin. We were going to start with that one. So stick around. You're listening to Craig Peterson on WGAN and online at Craig peterson.com. Stick around because we'll be right back with lots more great information.

Hey, welcome back, everybody, CraigPeterson here on WGAN and online at Craig Peterson dot com. Hey, if you're listening to this as a podcast, I would love to get a five star review from you. That's what helps other people find my podcasts and also course will helps with the dissemination and everything else. It makes it easy for you to be able to listen to it automatically every week, whether or not you have iOS go to Greg Peterson comm slash iTunes would absolutely love to have you give me a five star review over there, even if you don't end up subscribing. So back to Words with Friends. Man, this is an allegation here there is some proof that maybe this guy did it. Zynga did release a statement and saying that Words with Friends did have data compromised, apparently as well as another title called draw something. Quote, we recently discovered that certain player account information may have been illegally accessed by outside hackers, while the investigation is ongoing and we do not believe any financial information was accessed. So what do you think's going to happen here? How many of these people are going to end up going into jail? How how much of a find you think think is going to have? How much you find you think you are? I would have it is absolutely nuts. So this guy, this gnostic players guy told ZD net, by the way, that he hoped to put the data of 1 billion internet users up for sale. And by April of this year, so what about six months ago, he had reportedly stolen about 932 million user records from 44 companies. So it looks like he's actually making some headway here on his threats. And, and that's not a good thing, frankly. So this goes back to the whole password thing. Now I have a password specific special report that you might want to pay some attention to. Because if you have played Words with Friends, or again, the sister software to that called draw something, you need to change your password now, but I want you to understand how to change it, what you should do when it comes to changing your password. Because there are password managers out there, some of this stuff is free. And there are some very good free password managers. There are password managers you shouldn't ever use. And there's some that are really great with teams and pros and cons. So again, here now I've got another free guide for you. Now the Quick Start does lead you through a little bit of the password stuff. But it's only one page out of 32. The special report on passwords is I think it's six pages long. And it's specifically about passwords about using password managers what the best ones are and it'll let you click through to sign up on those password managers if you're interested in them. And I don't make any affiliates on any of that stuff commissions although if I did, it would be pennies. But he because these things are so cheap. So here's how you get that
right now now this is going to change I'm sure but right now if you go to Craig peterson.com slash subscribe, Craig Peterson comm slash subscribe, you will get a new subscribe there you will get a my special report on passwords and password management, I think it's very important to do. Because again, you got to change your password. But one of the things that people seem to forget all the time when it comes to passwords is you should never ever use the same username and or password on more than one site. Because here's what can happen. Let's say the guy got your account information from Jenga, because you played Words with Friends. And in that in that account information, let's say there is your email address that you use to sign in. And on top of that, now there is a password that you use to sign in. Now some people will sign in using your Facebook ID or maybe your Google ID. I never ever ever ever do that. I don't use Facebook login. I don't use Google login, for few reasons. But one of them is. In both cases, the main reason they're doing that is they want to track you when you're off of their website. So they know you just logged into Words with Friends, for instance. And in some cases, they get even more information than that, that you may or may not want them to have, frankly. So I never use those. I always use email and passwords. Now here's a trick you might not be aware of. Most email accounts allow you to use a plus sign in your email address. So for instance, with me my my email is me at Craig Peterson calm me at Craig Peterson calm, right people send me email there all the time all day long. But if I want to sign up for a service, I will sign up as me and then the plus sign. And then in this case, I might do Zynga because that's who it is who who I'm signing up with Zynga which is NYNGA or ZYNGA depending on how far north you live. So I would say me plus Zynga at Craig Peterson calm. So what will happen is that email will still get to me
and Google does support this I'm quite sure at least I used to. and many others do as well. I think Microsoft Office 365 supports that. I think you have to turn it on. And so what happens is email comes in. So I know for instance, at Zynga sold my email address to somebody or maybe it was stolen from Zynga because I only ever use that email address for Zynga. And yet I'm only I only have the one account. It all goes into my me email box at Craig Peterson calm. So I have made plus single add Craig people on.com I have me plus Cisco, Craig peterson.com, etc, etc. You see the pattern here. And I can also now use filters on my email so that I can set up mailboxes. So anything coming from Zynga gets I don't care to see it right away. So anything that goes to Craig plus Zynga Craig Peter song com or me pluses and got Craig Peter song com goes directly into the Zynga box, or maybe it goes to spam or however I want to handle it right. And then I'm I'm not even worried about the from address because I know that the address I signed up with is unique. So now I have a unique email address for that website. And then I use a unique password every time it's unique. And I use one password personally. And you'll see a description of one password in my password special report that you can get. And you even if you're already signed up for my email list, if you go to Craig peterson.com slash subscribe, you can get this again. Okay, you can sign up again and you'll get the special report on passwords. So I use one password and I have it generate for random words typically. So it'll give me a password that is this dash that that something dash else just as an example here. But for words that make it almost impossible for someone to break. Now some websites are still using the old standards that are proven to be not effective, where they'll require you to use special characters, upper lowercase digits and things. And in those cases, I will use those and one password will generate those for me as well. You can just you can mess with the formula. So I really love it. But the reason I just use plain text words is they're easier to type, especially if you have to type them in on a mobile device. That was one password. It's installed on my workstation, my laptop, my iPhone, my iPad, so I never actually have to remember it. It's all encrypted. It's all saved on iCloud encrypted as well. So if I create a new account on this machine is going to show up over the it's just fantastic so make sure you get this it's very important I think that you do have it because it is going to help you so to get this password special report Hey, it's special report day isn't it? Just go to Craig Peterson comm slash subscribe. That'll get you on my weekly newsletter let you know about the free classes and it will also get you my I think it's six page special report on passwords and password managers. You're listening to Craig Peters on right here on WGAN. Stick around because I'll be right back.

Hey, welcome back, Greg Peterson here WGAN. And online at Craig Peterson dot com. I have a ton of stuff up there over 3000 articles all searchable, all about the latest in technology and security, the things you need to know about. So I hope you visited online again, Craig Peterson calm. Now we have been talking as we often do a lot about some of the security issues that we're seeing out there. I tend to emphasize small business stuff because man, I empathize. I'm a small business guy always have been, I have had lifestyle businesses, hopefully, at some point, I will not have the lifestyle business. I have right now. Well, pretty much a family business. And I really enjoy working with my family members. And then we have other people that work for us that are not family members. And I, again, I really enjoy working with everybody and all of our clients. Now, I said that because I want to make one thing clear. Now don't you always know when someone says that I want to make one thing perfectly clear, it usually means that they're lying. Right? I just heard that on the news this week to heard one of the presidential candidates saying those exact words it reminded me of President Nixon back in the day, anyhow,
I have something I have never given away before. That is of incredible value to any small business out there. And it's also a great value to any home users that are out there. And it is a 32 page, quick start guide for your cyber security. It goes through just a ton of things that you need to know need to be aware of. I give a couple of examples of clients that I've picked up recently that have been having problems, we've got the key points for every small business, that about what you should be doing. We've got the stepping stones that you should be taking as you go through this process. We talked about the whole path to security. Some things you probably never even heard of before, like some automated ways to keep some of your software and applications up to date, anti malware how to do patching, which by the way can be automated, even for other types of devices, then your Windows machine securing endpoint, virtual private network, do you need one? When would you use one different types of firewalls and point firewalls of firewall for your network, whether it's a home or small business network, as isn't the case here, a password pass codes, password managers, we give some recommendations in here, we've got bonus tips to stop future infections that go through 19 different bonus tips that are in here. 21, excuse me, 21 goes all the way through what to do if you already have been hacked, when you should be asking for professional help. Software availability, and we go through windows Max, what you can do what it is that we do to help as well. And you can get all of this by just going right now, as I said this, this has always been part of a paid program. We had never given this away before. It is so valuable. And I don't know I've had a couple people say Craig, don't give it away sell it. But I want it in your hands. Okay. And I know some people aren't going to bother getting it. And that's just fine. Somebody people are going to say, Oh, Craig, I don't want to get it and sign up for your mailing list. Believe me, I am not going to be nailing you. I'm, in some ways one of the worst marketers in the world. Well, obviously, I'm not the worst, right? marketers in the world, I'm not going to be hammering you and pounding you and you can always unsubscribe. But I want to warn people to if you do unsubscribe from my list, this is really important. And I'm going to start putting this little footnote in my emails. If you unsubscribe after subscribing, I will never, ever even if you try and re subscribe. Never ever, ever send you anything ever again. So today, you might get this quick start guide by going to Craig peterson.com slash Quick Start all one word Quick Start. And you might hear me in two months offering another guide for free. Maybe one that I've never offered for free before that's just for my paid client. If you unsubscribe from my list, and then you try and re subscribe, it's going to look like you re subscribed but I can now never send it to you again. And that's so I can comply with GDPR. It's I noticed it this week with somebody who had subscribed to my texting list. So they they sent a question and they asked to be subscribed or in this case with you guys, you probably just want to send the word WGAN to me, just text WGN 2855385 5553 but that is my phone number. And you can always send me questions, any questions you want to to that phone number. And great, I'll go ahead and add you to my list. And so now you'll get those emergency messages like your to the climax and last time around, right. Or you can email you can text me with the email address if you want me to add you to a list, etc, etc. So that actually goes to me. But if you tell me to stop, and I don't send out more than one text a week, and most weeks, it's not even one text. So if you reply with stop, at some point, I will stop sending you things. And when I say stop sending you things I mean for ever.
You can never ever get something from me again, because again, under the GDPR rules that I'm complying with, right, because I'm a security guy, I'm complying with all the security regulations. If you even if you try and re subscribe, I will ignore my software is going to automatically ignore you because you told me to stop sending you stuff. So I will stop sending you stuff you will be on a blacklist. So it's great if you sign up because you're going to get all of this free stuff. And I give away a lot of free stuff more than anybody else I've ever seen. And my wife isn't too fun to that, but I want to help, okay, and and if you're interested in buying something from me, great, okay. But I really, really do want to help. But if you ever unsubscribe, you are unsubscribe forever. It's that simple. So keep that in mind as well. Because I know some people they think it's pretty smart. They go and they subscribe and they get the free download and then they unsubscribe, well, I have a lot of these free downloads, and you're not going to find out about them ever again. Because most of them you'll only find out about in my newsletter. And then even if you try and re subscribe, you won't be able to reach subscribe. So I saw a guy who had subscribed to my text notification service. And so he he had sent me a thing he had said, Please subscribe me, I want to know about the alerts when they happen. And when you're live on the radio. And so I went ahead and sent it to him and great. So he's on and then he responded with stop, which is how you unsubscribe. But in SMS, most of the time works for me works for most places, if you ever subscribed to you know, send send this to this Texas to this phone number, you can always just send stop to that phone number. And based on the regulations, they have to stop sending new stuff. So I put him on the blacklist. And then he sent another message and I tried to respond to him. And I couldn't because he was on the blacklist. Okay, so keep that in mind. Some people don't do it this way. I do. I take it seriously. If you tell me to unsubscribe you you are unsubscribed. And you'll never hear from me again. Okay, so don't don't try and play games with this because it'll cost you in this case, it would cost you good and valuable information. Now we are hearing every week about another hack, right. And I understand everybody out there that is just totally discouraged. With all of this. You know, I understand it because it is discouraging. I was I was on the radio on an interview. And I said basically I've I've given up right, it's it. It is very, very discouraging, especially if you've been hacked, especially if you're a small business guy like I am, where you have been trying to build this business for your whole life. This is your retirement, right? This money isn't just some faceless bureaucracy somewhere, it is you it is your wife, it is your retirement.
So I get it. And I understand those people that have been trying to do something the same way for a long time. And, you know, you just don't want to change, I get that as well. And it is scary. It's difficult. But guys and gals, you have to do it. Because whereas echo facts can survive losing pretty much every person in the country is personal information. And more or less, nobody gets fired. And there's no real find. That's not true for you as a small business person, because within six months, you're out of business. And that's what this quick start guide is all about that you can pick up at Craig Peterson. com slash Quick Start. And as I said, it's up for free right now I guarantee you it will be coming down. So make sure you get that. But Words with Friends is from a huge game company. These guys, Zynga make all kinds of games. If you've ever played games on Facebook, some of the games on your Android or iOS device guaranteed. Some of them have come from Zynga very, very big. So there is a report that came out from Hacker News. And it's saying that this Pakistani hacker, who goes by the alias of gnostic players told Gizmodo Hacker News and I'm reading a report from Gizmodo, but told Hacker News that on some bout September 2, he was able to access the data belonging to all the players who installed the game on iOS and Android, which would apparently amount to about 218 million users. That's pretty impressive, isn't it? You start hearing numbers like that. So I gotta go right now got a hard break. We gotta go to when we get back. I'm going to finish this up and we're going to talk about some some new features. Let's, let's look at the happier side of things. With the Alexa. You're listening to Craig Peterson here on WGAN and online at Craig peterson.com. Stick around because we'll be right back.
