Crappy Camper Episode 2: Noisy Dogs & Generators

Listen Later

Welcome to Another Episode of "Are You a Crappy Camper?” Hi everyone! I'm Janine Pettit, and with my co-host Lesa McDermott, we bring you another episode of the Girl Camper podcast. Today, we delve deep into two hot topics for campers: dogs and generators at campgrounds.
**Dog Etiquette at the Campground**
Having 400,000 members in our Facebook group means plenty of lively discussions, especially about pets. One notable comment from Andrea shared an experience at a KOA campground where a nearby camper's five Pomeranians yapped non-stop. It's a perfect reminder that while we love our pets, it's essential to respect fellow campers.
Lesa and Janine agree that managing your dog's behavior is crucial. Whether you have one dog or multiple, a well-behaved dog makes everyone's camping experience better. Camper Debra shared useful insights about teaching manners with a mix of five dogs and five cats. Training and awareness truly make a difference.
**Managing Your Dogs While Camping:**
- Keep barking to a minimum.
- Be aware of your dog's behavior and needs.
- Respect campground rules about pets.
**Generator Noise: A Persistent Problem**
Generator noise can be a significant nuisance, as Tracy pointed out when she couldn't escape the clamor next to her cozy van at a Minnesota campground. Respecting quiet hours, typically from 10 PM to 6 AM, is paramount, and modern camping has made strides with solar and lithium battery technologies to power essentials without the noise.
**Generator Guidelines:**
- Respect quiet hours.
- Consider solar and lithium battery systems.
- If you must use a generator, choose one with a decibel level of 55 or lower.
With continuous advancements in camping technology, quieter and more efficient camping is increasingly achievable. Your choices and awareness can ensure you enjoy nature without disturbing others.
