Good news! I survived STLV 2026 (barely)! Back to back shows with Comic-Con is quite brutal but I had an extraordinary experience and Hero Within had a great response from the fans. I hosted a panel at STLV called the Trials & Tribble-ations of Creating 24th Century Merch and was joined by Martin (Cherry Tree), Barry (Factory Entertainment), Craig (Star Trek Wines), David (EXO-6) and Larry (Publishing). This was more like group therapy session as we shared about the highs, lows and everything in between about making products for Star Trek. We are back from a crazy week in San Diego and finally ready to recap and review San Diego Comic-Con 2026. Like every year, there is so much unexpected twists and turns that it usually takes a few days just to process what we experienced. This year was my 20th anniversary attending Comic-Con and I’ve recorded about 16 years of prep and recap podcasts (check the feed). It was a special year but not without it’s controversy. This year, I am joined by Katrina, Phillip and Derrell as we share our Top 5 list as well as discuss the Hall H incident and more. Our traditional Hall H interviews are back! It was another crazy year of Hall H anxiety as a myriad of fans planned, plotted and schemed about how to get into the infamous Hall H on Saturday. With Marvel leading the way, hordes of attendees stood in line for multiple days for a chance to be in the legendary Hall H. This year we had a fantastic set of interviews including one Australian who had a ticket for ONLY Saturday with the dreams of making it into Hall H. We interviewed her way in the back of the line before any wristbands reached her and the tension was palatable. Don’t worry we stayed around to see what happened because we couldn’t miss it- and you won’t want to miss it either.

In 2016, I came to San Diego Comic-Con with my start up Hero Within. Being only a few weeks old, I was going from panel to event hustling my wares to anyone that would stop and listen. It was one of the most scariest things I have ever done. 10 years later, I find myself surrounded by a great team and in a room full of amazing Hero Within fans celebrating our first decade. I am just blown away and astonished with how quickly the time went by. Trevor Kaihoi, Liz Bai, Amy Hypnarwoski and I share the favorite moments in our journey and some of the craziest behind the scenes that we haven’t shared before. Thank you for all that attended and here’s to another 10 heroic years!

Supergirl (Milly Alcock) first appeared to fandom in her quirky cameo at the end of 2025’s Superman. As a huge fan of that movie, I was thrilled that in a short year, we would be getting another addition to the ‘Super’ family. However, Craig Gillespie‘s version opened to mixed reviews with a 59% on Rotten Tomatoes with Supergirl getting torched on social media. Johnny, Trevor and I were big fans of the graphic novel Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow so we were all looking forward to this big screen adaptation. Was it as bad as reviews said? I can’t believe it’s been 7 years since our last theatrical Star Wars movie.(Ep 9: Rise of Skywalker). Since that time, the void has been filled with many (I mean many!) Star Wars Disney+ series. While the quality and reception has been very up and down, The Mandalorian has been the crowning jewel of this ever expanding universe. The success has now evolved into Mandalorian and Grogu for the big screen and we are here to talk about it. Trevor, Johnny and I share our opening weekend thoughts and also discuss what is wrong with the Star Wars universe. We end answering the big question; Is this the way?

It was an honor to be on Larry Nemecek‘s WonderCon Star Trek panel to discuss Starfleet Academy and the announcement that it would end after season 2. We also discuss the uncertain future of the franchise and answer some fan questions from the audience. Below is the panel description and the audio:

Star Trek turns 60 with a host of anniversary plans, but Starfleet Academy has bowed with more controversy than any recent series since Discovery’s heated first year.  With S1 wrapped,  “Dr. Trek” LARRY NEMECEK  (The Trek Files, Portal 47) asks a host of Trek industry vets their own “SFA” takes on the series as well as the meta-reaction to it: NEAL HALLFORD  (DP, Con of Wrath), MATT JENNINGS (For All Mankind, 1701: A Blerd Story), TONY KIM  (Hero Within), CHARLYNN SCHMIEDT  (Mission Log: Prodigy, Star Trek & Chill). Is that initial negative reaction by some critics and fans more about clickbait-chasing talkers and review-bombing than actual criticism and nuance? Can we sense whether IRL armchair Trekkies feel as do mainstream critics and activist fans—in support?

It was another successful WonderCon and it was FANtastic to kickoff the con season among friends. My Small Business panel, Finding Your Passion…And Get Paid returned this year with a stellar panel line up. This year I was joined by artist Priscilla Wilson, writer/publisher Arthur Ebuen and toy maker Jeff Lawber. In our panel, we discuss the controversy of AI, how we got started in business, some of the early pitfalls we encountered and some tips on getting started. Since the first surprise appearance of Robert Downey Jr as Doctor Doom at San Diego Comic-Con 2024, we’ve been looking forward to what’s next in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. To say the MCU is in a state of flux is an understatement. Can next year’s Avengers: Doomsday recapture the magic that we all know and love? I can’t believe we are already back to talk about Supes! Although this time, it’s a different Kryptonian! Today we get our first sneak peek at the new Supergirl film set to open June 26, 2026. We gave Superman high praise this past year and look forward to another big step for this new DC Cinematic Universe.
