I used to waitress when I was younger. A good server never assumes to know how her customers prefer their order: she always asks and caters to their needs. But how often in our personal lives do we fail to render the same considerations to one another? How can one possibly know what another needs from us without questioning them about their preferences? Failure to do so is presumptuous and arrogant. Do not our friends, family, and lovers deserve as much?
