Welcome to this new episode of the Creating Change Podcast with Emma Bradford!
EPISODE 4: In this episode I talk about something that many people have been struggling with; Anxiety. Practical tips and tools that helped me navigate and let go of weekly panic attacks – creating more calm in life.
[1:25] - Uncertainty in itself is not an issue, it’s what stories we create about uncertainty that produces anxious feelings. It can bring opportunities and gifts, though out of protection many of us have learned to fear it.
Symptoms of Panic Attacks
[2:25] - Panic attack symptoms can vary from heart palpitations, feeling out of breath, sweatiness, vertigo, and feeling faint.
How to Handle Panic Attacks
[3:33] - One of the things that helped me with anxiety was being aware of my thoughts. As soon as she started to change the story within my mind, I could navigate the situation with more ease. Awareness is a key factor in reversing negative dialogue and rewriting the story.
[4:51] - Everything is interlinked mind and body. What we’re thinking about affects our feelings and physiology.
My Relationship with Caffeine
[6:20] - NLP, acupuncture, and cutting out all caffeine. Here I explain how I reacted to caffeine and how it was a key component in my experience with anxiety and panic.
[7:49] - Coming back to one point of focus because when there is anxiety or a sense of overwhelm, we are focusing on too many things at once.
[8:50] - Here I discuss external and internal overwhelm. They are interlinked though some people can be triggered by one more than the other.
[9:47] - The healing powers of nature.
[10:24] - Ways to navigate internal overwhelm.
A Simple Tool To Reconnect
[11:42] - Bring your attention to one point only and breathe deeply. Then notice what shifts as you do that. Placing our hand over our heart and whispering to ourselves, “I’m here.”
[12:36] - Move the body. Dancing, exercising, cycling, a walk in nature.
