In this episode I interview Marquell Oliver and ask him the million dollar question we were all asked as teens - "what do you want to be when you grow up?". The conversation dives deep into Marquell's life story from starting a mentor group in high school to now, where he has founded a non profit called Pure Alchemy that focuses on positive cultural change. Marquell shares his insight on perspective speaking, how he found his mentor, and the people he's met along his journey that have helped him get to where he is today. 

What'd you fail at most recently? How did you react? Honestly, I've heard so many entrepreneurs talk about failure and change and how it's necessary to succeed but I rarely ever get to see them express those failures in that very process because I'm usually following them at the point where they've already made it. So let's dial it back a bit, and welcome change and failure to allow for what needs to happen.

You can either CHOOSE to care what other people think about you, or not. It's more easier said than done but when there is a choice THERE IS A LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL. And that's what I want you to see. 

We're all on our own timeline. But it's easy to compare your "successes" in your timeline to other people's timelines and that's when we need to redirect our focus. I'm no master at this but that's the KEY. It's all progress. This episode is me practicing that honesty with myself, to hopefully encourage you to do the same. 

When you create a goal, do you also create a timeline for it? A timeline that includes the last day being the day you FINALLY made it? I think that's setting us up for failure. The gold isn't at the finish line. 

I'm on a journey of changing the way we ask the daunting, suffocating question of "what do you want to be when you grow up?". The first piece to that process involves sharing stories, exposing that many of us don't have a linear trajection between the moment we answer that and our end goal.
