Episode 242. Aired on Wednesday, January 31, 2018
Kim Panella and I have been scheming about a way to appreciate, encourage, and build stronger connections within the design community. We are going to do five giveaways at the end of the month but will choose a winner each week. I explain this in the video. So love on some designers this month and take one week out for you to show some love to yourself.
Here are the prompts for each week, try and do one of these prompts per week. Snap a photo and use the hashtag #loveondesigners when you post it.
    Week 1: ENERGIZE
Bring coffee or other energizing snack or beverage to a friend or colleague at their office.
Meet someone for an energizing lunch or beverage break.
    Pay for a stranger's coffee.
Get a Coffee Pod sticker set and surprise someone with a coffee and a message of love.
Post an energizing quote and tag a friend who could use some energizing (remember to use the #loveondesigners tag)
    Week 2: ENCOURAGE
Create a post and share an encouraging word on social media specifically to someone who needs a lift. Tag them and use the hashtag #loveondesigners
Send an old fashioned letter to someone who you know who has been killing it in our industry.
Direct message someone and let them know you have seen their work and know how much time and energy they have been putting into it and it isn't going unnoticed.
    Week 3: RECHARGE
This is a week for you, so focus on you and giving you what you need this week. Shoot a picture and use the hashtag #loveondesigners this week and let us know how you are taking care of yourself this week.
Take a walk or a hike.
    Do yoga.
    Get a massage (manicure, pedicure).
    Go to a movie.
    Take a nap.
Do something that refuels you, take a picture and use the #loveondesigners.
    Week 4: CONNECT
This week we want you to reach out to someone you don't know and tell them how their work / life has inspired you.
Create a Social Media post and tag them (and us) telling them how they have inspired or helped you.
Reach out to a mentor and let them know how much they have meant to you.
Send a card to someone you have looked up to, to their office. Do a little digging and find the address. And craft an incredible envelope to go with the card.
I hope you will join us as we lift up the design community this month and spread the love.
Here is how to enter to win one of the five giveaways this month:
GIVEAWAY TIME! Tag 2 friends in the comments to enter a drawing for some of Kim's and my favorite drawing and painting tools, plus a few cards to send to friends and people who inspire you, postcards which you can hang in your office to inspire you, flavored pecan coffee from a local (to me) pecan orchard, Coffee Pod Stickers, two essential oil serums, and a few other bonus items!

  • Corrina Reff // Focusing on Branding
Episode 241. Aired on Wednesday, January 24, 2018
Have you ever wanted to focus on a certain area of design, but don’t know how to get started? Or have you enjoyed an area but not really known how to start incorporating it into your offerings? Well if you have said yes then this episode is for you.
This week we will be talking to my friend Corrina Reff. Corrina started blowing me away with her daily hand-lettering project. But after talking to her, I realized this was just part of her wonder. She was killing it in the branding realm and her hand lettering was an area she wanted to create more specialized branding in. She is REALLY smart and so nice and creative. She has a partner and they have an interesting business structure as well which we will dig into. She is also a new mom and still finds time to learn a new skill and improve on her craft.
I can’t wait for this conversation. Literally overtime we talk, she blows me away. I am excited to have my friend Corrina (long time listener) on the show this week.

  • Dylan Menges // Understanding Your Calling
Episode 240. Aired on Wednesday, January 10, 2018
These days growing my business and starting my illustration journey are constantly on my mind. As I search for this clarity of purpose I am lucky to talk to someone who is ahead of me on this journey. This week I am talking to someone I really look up to, my friend, Dylan Menges. He is a true inspiration to me, both business-wise and spiritually.
We will dig into how he went out on his own in Sept 2015 and how he uncovered what he was meant to be doing with his life, talent, and time. Dylan is an amazingly talented letterer and illustrator. He deals with the same things we all deal with, like fear of the blank page, the punishing self-talk that holds us all back. We will talk about breaking through all this and building Menges Design with his wife, Janet.
