What is it like to be a successful artist… in two entirely different mediums? Since the late 1970s Dey Young has had a rich and varied career as an actress, starring in the cult hit Rock 'n' Roll High School, multiple iterations of the Star Trek franchise, the recent David O. Russell movie Amsterdam, and even as THAT store worker who shuts down Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. In addition, she simultaneously has an equally successful career as an accomplished sculptor. Dey discusses her rapid and simultaneous launch to both her careers and how each pursuit feeds the other.

Based in Tokyo, Jimmy Cohrssen travels the world taking photos, predominantly of architecture, for leading designers, architects and magazines worldwide. His travel photography has made the cover of Conde Nast Traveler, featured in Vogue, books for Louis Vuitton, and campaigns for Air France, Louis XIII, and Le Meridien. Jimmy talks about taking pictures as a kid, owning a popular record store in Northern Virginia in the 1990s, documenting favelas in Brazil, and what he REALLY thinks of amateurs taking pictures on iPhones.

A trail-blazer is someone who cuts their own path in life, and that aptly defines the infectiously positive Tia Smith, who says that while growing up only Oprah Winfrey and TV news anchor Maureen Bunyan were the only women of color in broadcasting and production. Tia shares her journey from studying production in college to a career as a producer, director and consultant, making music videos, creating narrative and non-fiction television series and programs, and incorporating faith and family in the projects she chooses to make. She also discusses the tough aspect of working money jobs and what happens when a project conflicts with her beliefs and positive outlook. Tia wants all of us to “put our sprinkle on it!”

Joe Cortina is a classically trained painter. Also, he designs experiential environments at museums as varied as The Smithsonian, Presidential Libraries, professional sports stadiums and Hall of Fames. Also, he is a five time EMMY winner and directed the 1992 Barcelona Olympic coverage for NBC. And probably most challenging, he was Evan’s boss for seven years. Joe talks about his wide-ranging career and shatters some myths, such as the customer is not always right, and when it’s okay to do business with friends and family.

You think you know adversity? Female jazz guitarists are a rare breed, and it takes a lot more than musical chops to survive in the predominantly male field. Not only does Amando Monaco succeed, having released multiple albums as a solo artist and with various bands, but she is also an associate professor at the esteemed Berklee College of music. She continues to create, compose and play music despite her Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis nearly two decades ago. Amanda discusses creating art after 9/11, during a pandemic, and nearly nonstop despite a potentially debilitating illness.

They perform in front of energetic, live audiences. Their videos have been viewed by millions. But when comedians create their art, they do it alone and in a vacuum. Comedian Rajiv Satyal describes his process of taking jokes from their creation to presentation in front of an audience that will instantly pass judgment. Rajiv also discusses his wild career, from his very first performance (to an audience of one: a VERY famous athlete) to opening for comedy legends (like Dave Chapelle, Tim Allen, and Kevin Nealon to name a few) to creating the viral video I Am Indian (which has been viewed over 50 million times) to performing on all seven continents (yes, that includes Antarctica). And naturally, there are more than a few laughs along the way.

She is a seasoned veteran actor, singer and dancer with over a decade of professional experience under her belt. She was a series regular on Just Add Magic and has acted on dozens of other shows. She recently wrote, produced and stars in her own web series entitled Me, and she records and releases songs, broadcasting directly to her more than 425,000 Instagram followers and 100,000 YouTube followers. So what can’t she do? Well, at the time of this interview, she can’t buy a drink… because Aubrey Miller is still only 20 years old! What is an artist’s career like when they knew early on EXACTLY what they wanted to do? Aubrey discusses her path and how her passions continually shape her journey, leading her next… to South Korea! And yes, her work ethic puts us all to shame.

How does an artist create without all the tools at their disposal? Michael Naranjo is a world-renowned sculptor who has shown his work for presidents and popes, and has had works commissioned around the world. Michael also served our country in Vietnam and a grenade blast left him permanently blind and without full use of one of his hands. Jenna Winters is a TV producer and documentary filmmaker who is currently shooting her passion project: the story of her father. Michael and Jenna discuss creating without all the senses, making art when it’s not easy or convenient, and the real glue that holds the family together and keeps the art going (spoiler: it’s Michael’s wife/Jenna’s mom).

Producer Evan Marshall and Playwright/Screenwriter/Director Alex Goldberg were high school friends, and following decades forging their own creative paths, reunite here to learn about the creative process of artists in different mediums. In this introductory episode, Evan and Alex revisit their careers and how they have pivoted…and pivoted... Evan spent more than a decade as a producer at America’s Most Wanted and then started making documentaries and museum multimedia and installations before landing in the agency world. Alex started as an actor, writer, and sketch and improv comedian in New York before moving to Los Angeles and focusing on playwriting, screenwriting, and directing.
