This coming Thursday is our national day of Thanksgiving. I know not everyone in America will look to God with thankfulness, but what a blessing for us to live in a country that recognizes a day of giving thanks to God. We have so many blessings to be thankful for from God. We have many physical blessings as well as spiritual blessings. Regardless of whether times are good or bad we can always find thankfulness for our good God who has given us so much.

"And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, 19 addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with all your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ." Eph 5:18-21 (ESV)

We should always be filled with thankfulness toward God for everything He has given us. Let’s unite together this Lord’s day in praise of gratitude toward our great God.

How Do You See God? None of us have seen God but all of us have an impression of what God is like. How do you view God? What do you think He is like? Is God like a policeman waiting to catch us speeding? Is God like a butler waiting to serve us? Maybe we see God as a sweet old grandpa rocking in his chair on the front porch watching us from a distance? If these views of God are wrong, how should we see Him?

"Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.” 1 John 4:7-9 (ESV)

We should see God for who He is; A loving God who has given us so much. Let’s join together this Sunday to grow in our understanding and perspective of who God is in our lives today .

Have you ever been really, really, thirsty? Have you ever been really hot, sweaty and extremely thirsty. How good does it feel to get that long cold drink of water? Spiritually speaking we get thirsty. Jesus talked a lot about thirst and that He would be able to quench our thirst and not in a physical way. In John 4:13 Jesus tells a Samaritan woman about never thirsting again.

"Jesus said to her, "Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty forever. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." John 4:13-14 (ESV)

Our physical bodies need water. What does the spiritual part of our body need? Let’s get together this Sunday and study God’s Word on how we can quench our thirst in Jesus.

The Bible clearly teaches us that there is a Holy Spirit. But who is the Holy Spirit? What’s the purpose of the Holy Spirit in my life today? What does He do exactly? There are several scriptures that tell us what the Holy Spirit does. Now there are some things that the Holy Spirit did that were limited to the time of the Apostles, but there are teachings about what the Holy Spirit does even today. Paul wrote to the Jewish and Gentile Christians in Rome;

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope." Romans 15:13 (ESV)

Here Paul ascribes the overflowing of hope to the power of the Holy Spirit. Why should we trust in God who fills us with all joy and peace? So we can overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Bread comes in many forms and has always been a foundation for civilization in history. Every society depends on their bread for basic survival and prosperity. This truth is reflected in the words that Jesus spoke when He said: “Man shall not live by bread alone.” And Jesus in His model prayer taught us to ask God to “give us this day our daily bread”. We need bread or daily food to feed our flesh and be healthy. We need the Holy Spirit in our lives to be healthy. God has given us a special gift that we should not misuse or abuse. Paul tells us there are things that can make the Holy Spirit grieve if we have them in our lives. 

"And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you." Ephesians 4:30-32 (ESV)

The Holy Spirit is an important part of our God that we need to honor and recognize in our lives. Let’s unite together and study God’s Word to learn about this Holy Spirit in our lives.

God works in mysterious ways that are difficult for us to understand many times (Isaiah 55:8-9). One of those ways is the work of God’s Spirit. Specifically this coming Sunday morning we will look at what the scriptures have to say about Holy Spirit living inside us. John says:

"By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.” 1 John 4:13-17 (ESV)

All this year we’ve had the theme of Getting to Know God Better. We’ve talked about God the Father and the many Hebrew names of God. We’ve talked about Jesus, the Son and who He is to us. We now will consider the Holy Spirit. If were honest, we struggle with talking about the Holy Spirit. Partly because we disagree sometimes on certain aspects of the Holy Spirit, mostly we are intimidated with the topic of who the Holy Spirit is and what He does. But we know this for certain; The Holy Spirit is a gift from God. 

"And Peter said to them, "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself." Acts 2:38-39 (ESV). 

The Holy Spirit is not only a gift from God that we receive in baptism, but the Holy Spirit is God himself for there is only one God. “There is one body and one Spirit just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” Eph 4:4-7 (ESV).

Most likely, we’ve all heard the fact that God is righteous and just. But what exactly does that mean? God is completely right; all the time. He is never wrong. That’s hard for me to imagine and grasp because I know how many times I’ve gotten it wrong. I know how many times I’ve done wrong. God has never once done wrong. He is completely righteous and just. He always insures, in His authority, to impart justice and do what’s right. David wrote about God’s powerful righteousness and Justice.

“The Lord reigns, let the earth rejoice; let the many coastlands be glad! 2 Clouds and thick darkness are all around him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne. 3 Fire goes before him and burns up his adversaries all around. 4 His lightnings light up the world; the earth sees and trembles. 5 The mountains melt like wax before the Lord, before the Lord of all the earth. 6 The heavens proclaim his righteousness, and all the peoples see his glory." Psalm 97:1-6 (ESV)

There are so many things constantly changing in our lives. Our relationships, our finances, our jobs, our health are always in a state of flux. Even though our lives seem to constantly be changing, one thing is always constant. Our God never changes. What is the significance of our God being constant and never changing? He is completely faithful and we can always depend on Him. We can always turn to Him when we’re in trouble. He will never let us down. Lastly, we can possess peace, in Him, because He is never changing.

“Of old you laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you will remain; they will all wear out like a garment. You will change them like a robe, and they will pass away, but you are the same, and your years have no end.” Ps 102:25-27 (ESV).
