  • Matthew: Come Meet the King - Anxiety's Antidote (Matthew 6:25-34)
Alan Crim :: Creekside Church :: Sunday, June 14, 2020
This world offers so many opportunities to be anxious, and what we see in the news almost seems intent to amplify that anxiety. Alan Crim preaches from Matthew 6:25-34, where Jesus bids worried followers to “look at the birds” and “consider the lillies”, presenting a 3-part antidote to anxiety anchored in God’s providence, His omniscience, and His sovereignty as King. Alan challenges us to put God's kingdom first and trade our worries and fears for trust in Him.

  • Matthew: Come Meet the King - Heavenling Hoarding (Matthew 6:19-24)
Steve Smith :: Creekside Church :: Sunday, June 7, 2020
Matthew 6:19-24 presents a Biblical justification for hoarding—just not for yourself. In Steve Smith's message on this section, Jesus shares 3 activities to instruct us on the priority and practice of heavenly hoarding as a reflection of our true righteousness. Steve's message encourages us to explore options to divest ourselves of earthly possessions and invest ourselves in eternal reward. Where can you give? Where can you do good works? Where can you share the Gospel? Pastor Steve's sermon follows a time pf prayer for our nation and world in light of unfolding racial tensions.

  • Matthew: Come Meet the King - Fasting for an Audience of One (Matthew 6:16-18)
Steve Smith :: Creekside Church :: Sunday, May 31, 2020
In today’s culture, fasting for health reasons is acceptable, but fasting for religious reasons is just weird. Temporarily redirecting our hunger to a focus and devotion to God is best understood by people familiar with their standing before Him. Steve Smith’s message from Matthew 6:16-18 highlights two contrasting forms of fasting, the kind practiced by those who make a public display of it and those who fast for an audience of One. Steve’s message is followed by announcements and a tribute to Creekside’s 2020 graduates.

  • Matthew: Come Meet the King - For His Ears Only (Matthew 6:5-15)
Steve Smith :: Creekside Church :: Sunday, May 24, 2020

From Matthew 6:5-15, a passage that includes the Lord's Prayer, Steve Smith preaches on these two prayer principles in order to avoid hypocrisy and live righteously in God’s presence for His ears only. Steve's message follows several announcements by Alan Crim.

  • Matthew: Come Meet the King - For His Eyes Only (Matthew 6:1-4)
Steve Smith :: Creekside Church :: Sunday, May 17th, 2020
“Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them... when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet...” In Steve Smith’s message from Matthew 6:1-4, Jesus teaches a for-God’s-eyes-only principal of righteous living and the practice of righteous giving—the kind that’s done in secret—by those living in the presence of God. Jesus prohibited hypocrisy and promoted secrecy in our charity. Steve’s sermon follows several announcements by Alan Crim and a remembrance of Creekside’s Ruben Martinez who recently sacrificed his own life to save another. This was our first public service held at Creekside since the COVID-19 outbreak encouraged public church meetings to close in March.

  • Matthew: Come Meet the King - Love Your Enemy (Matthew 5:43-48)
Steve Smith :: Creekside Church :: Sunday, May 10, 2020
“You have heard... 'love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies…" In Matthew 5:43-48, Jesus contrasts two approaches to dealing with our enemies. From Pastor Steve's message we see that the Scribes and Pharisees of Jesus' day taught restrictions on love and expansion of hate, while Jesus made clear that kingdom righteousness extended to loving our enemies as well as our friends. Steve also challenges us toward 4 responses to Christ’s command to love our enemies. Steve's message follows a video and word honoring mothers on Mothers' Day, as well as a few other announcements.

  • Matthew: Come Meet the King - Honesty & Humility: Endanered Virtues (Matthew 5:33-42)
Steve Smith :: Creekside Church :: Sunday, May 3, 2020
Jesus taught followers to "make no oath at all…” and to "not resist an evil person; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.” Jesus’ teachings in Matthew 5:33-42 weren’t a ban on all oaths or self-defense, but rhetorical overstatements designed to help us evaluate our priorities. In Pastor Steve’s message Jesus reveals two additional manifestations of kingdom righteousness—one declaring truth and the other denying self—that challenge and compel believers to greater obedience as well as call unbelievers to repentance.

  • Matthew: Come Meet the King - Manifesting Kingdom Morality (Matthew 5:27-32)
Steve Smith :: Creekside Church :: Sunday, April 26, 2020
Jesus taught that Kingdom of righteousness involves a clearer understanding of God’s law that was much deeper than what was being taught by the religious leaders of His day. In Pastor Steve’s message on Matthew 5:27-32, Jesus expands the definition of the sin of adultery and exposes our great need of a Savior. Offered hope in the face of temptation, sexual brokenness and divorce, we're reminded us that the need for the truth of God’s word to be learned and lived is as great as it ever was. In Steve's message, Jesus identifies two ways our righteousness manifests kingdom morality.
