Creepy Confidential

EPISODE 72 : THE HISTORY OF DEATH MASKS
What if the last thing left behind wasn’t a memory…but a face? In this chilling episode of Creepy Confidential, host Noelle opens the case files on one of the most haunting and intimate traditions in human history: death masks. Long before photography, the only way to preserve a person’s likeness was to take it directly from the dead. Using plaster, wax, or clay, artists and anatomists captured faces just hours after death—freezing the final expression forever. From ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome, where faces were believed to guide the soul into the afterlife, to medieval Europe and the Victorian obsession with death, this episode explores how death masks became tools of immortality, power, science, and control. We examine the most famous and disturbing examples in history, including:

• Napoleon Bonaparte’s death mask and the fight over his true likeness
• Abraham Lincoln’s haunting post-assassination mask
• Ludwig van Beethoven’s final expression, captured in plaster
• Marie Tussaud’s Revolutionary-era death masks, taken from executed nobles
• L’Inconnue de la Seine, the Unknown Woman whose face became the model for the CPR training doll used worldwide

This episode dives into morbid history, forbidden art, and the psychological need to preserve the face of the dead—asking why humans have always been drawn to what remains after life has left the body. Are death masks acts of reverence…
or an uncomfortable intimacy with mortality? Pour yourself a creepy curated quencher and join us as we confront death face-to-face. Because some faces don’t fade—
they wait.

Imagine this: your heart stops. The monitors flatline. Doctors rush in, pressing paddles to your chest, pumping oxygen into your lungs. For a few minutes, by every medical definition, you are dead.
Yet in that space between life and nothingness, something happens. You find yourself leaving your body, floating above the chaos, watching as the team fights to bring you back. You feel a profound calm. Maybe you see a tunnel of light. Maybe you hear the voices of loved ones long gone.
And then—suddenly—you’re back. Alive again. Changed forever.

We’re taxiing down a different kind of runway—straight into one of the weirdest, most mysterious places in America…Denver. International. Airport.
Blucifer the giant cursed demonic horse art piece, the murals that look like they were commissioned by the Illuminati during a bad acid trip, and the design of the runways creating a giant swastika when viewed as the crow flies. This airport isn’t just about the typical baggage claims and overpriced coffee and snacks—oh no. This place might also be hiding underground bunkers, secret societies, and... the New World Order.

From the now infamous candle lit séances on the British circuit, to the sensational “ectoplasm revelations” captured in photographs, Helen Duncan captivated believers and skeptics alike.
These weren’t your average table-rapping, candle-flickering affairs.
Her séances were wildly theatrical.
In 1941, during World War II, Helen Duncan held a séance in Portsmouth. A sailor appeared to one of the attendees — a sailor who claimed to have died aboard the HMS Barham, a British battleship.
Problem with that is the ship had been sunk. The government hadn’t released the news. In fact, the public wouldn’t learn about it for months.
So how did Helen know?
Was it a spirit… or a security leak?
Helen Duncan was a spiritualist superstar. But not everyone wanted her to share her skills…including the British government.
