Everyone has their own definition of happiness. But, in order to get the place of your happiness you need to let go of your past. We have all made mistakes, but those mistakes don't define who you are or where you are going. Stop worrying. The only thing that worry does is rob your happiness of today.

Go out and conquer your day and week and be happy!

There is a lot of discussion now about training for law enforcement officers. Officers get a lot of training during the course of their career but some training is better than others.  Officers are faced with interactions every day which could result in split-second decisions, and there needs to be training that assists with these decisions.

Enter VirTra - This company creates realistic, immersive judgmental use of force training simulations for the US Military and Law Enforcement.

On this episode I am honored to have Lon Bartel on the show. Lon is the VP of Training and Curriculum for VirTra and he brings his extensive law enforcement experience and training to Virtra.

If you are looking for a training platform for your agency there is only one choice and that is VirTra.

So excited to have my next guest on the show - Retired LAPD Sgt and Use of Force Expert Marlon Marrache.

    Marlon’s own words

I’m a 24-year veteran “retired” Police Sergeant with over 12 years of Police Misconduct Investigation, adjudication, and examination experience. During my 15 years as a Sergeant, I successfully completed an assignment in Internal Affairs as an Associate Advocate conducting Board of Rights Hearings, and to Officer Representation Section defending police officers.

These assignments have afforded much success in demonstrating my expertise in Peace Officer Bill of Rights Act (POBRA) violations and in Police Mediation (i.e., Biased Policing Complaints) investigations. It has also allowed me to teach “instruct” Police Misconduct and Categorical Use Of Force Investigations with an emphasis on Officer Involved Shootings (OIS).

At the present time, I’m providing consultation services for but not limited to:

    – Expert Witness testimony for Police Misconduct Investigations
    – Independent Review “Analysis” of any Police Misconduct investigations
    – Public Speaking in Spanish & English on Police related incidents

Hello everyone and welcome back to this Solo episode on the CJEvolution Podcast. Thank you all for listening and supporting the show. Check out the YouTube channel at: https://www.youtube.com/@cjevolutionpodcast

A big thank you to all the criminal justice professionals who are serving. Always remember you are honored, cherished and loved. Keep doing what you are doing and be safe.

I struggled. I was in a dark place for a long time. I wear a bracelet on my wrist that says "Memento Mori". This ancient saying goes back to the time of Socrates. The literal translation means "Remember you will die."

Yes, everything living on this planet will die at some point, including you and I. I look at this everyday and ponder if I am living the life I am supposed to be. Am I giving it my all. Am I giving back to my fellow humans the way I want to. If not, its up to me to make the change and not wait for someone else to do it.

Suicide rates in this country and among first responders are staggering with no signs of slowing down unfortunately. I often wonder if the soul still suffers when someone takes their own life. My opinion is it does. I think those souls are shown a life of "What could have been" if they have kept going, had faith and reached out for help when they needed it.

Take a look at your life and dive deep. Are you living the best life you can right now. If not remember Memento Mori.

Stay strong, Stay safe and see you next time.

Happy Monday everyone. I want to express my condolences to the family of Tyre Nichols. His death at the hands of law enforcement officers shocked the nation. This is not a reflection on the entire law enforcement profession as a whole.

Organizational culture played a key role in this horrific event, and in my opinion an investigation to the entire department needs to take place. My guess is that this is systemic within the agency and ultimately The Chief of Police is responsible for the culture of an organization, good or bad.

What is the culture within your organization?

While the Chief was in front of the media preparing citizens before the release of the videos, the buck stops with the Chief.

Hopefully, justice will be served in this incident.

Go out and do the best job you can and please be safe.
