In today’s passage in John, there are two different groups caught in their sin: the woman caught in adultery and the religious leaders caught in their own trap.

And the way Jesus responds reveals two things:

1) We cannot hide anything from Him.

2) We don’t need to hide from Him…because instead of condemnation, Jesus longs to show us mercy.

For all of us who are hiding something, who don’t want to be fully seen because we fear we would be rejected and condemned, today’s story offers us incredibly good news.

Christ and his worship cannot be integrated by any other worship or world view.

The resurrection of Jesus from the dead was God’s personal declaration that Jesus was the promised redeemer He had spoken of in the Scriptures

Christ, in surprising tenderness and approachability, mingles with the lost in order to extend to them the cure for their spiritual sickness.

Jesus came to forgive all sins of those who come to Him through the authority of His divinity.

In days of multiplying diversions and deepening divisions, it is easy to get off message and mission.  Finding our life and hope in Jesus, believers are to strive to proclaim Him to others so we can present them to Him in worship.

In today’s passage, we see Jesus’ call to his disciples to “repent” and “follow me” is the same call that he gives to his church today.

The Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness to be tempted by Satan as a foundation for his ministry in confidence, trust and compassion.

Authentic Repentance through the work of the Messiah was John the Baptists message and meaning of his baptism and the incredibly deep significance of HIs ministry that Jesus affirmed.

In our final sermon of the “Refocus” series, we look at how God calls his children to join in his mission as ambassadors for Christ, entrusted with the message and ministry of reconciliation.
