When the woman discovered Christ, her life was changed. Despite becoming unclean, Jesus met the woman where she was, in order that she might hear the message of salvation. As the disciples returned, Jesus taught them how God sustains His own as they seek to live for Him. As the disciples become part of His work, God will deliver the harvest that is ripe for the picking. For the woman, she responded to Jesus, became part of His work, and by her testimony, many people came to Christ and were delivered!

Jesus spoke with the woman at the well. He shattered norms and expectations and he began a new way of thinking. John tells the story of Jesus so that we can realize that a life in Christ is not about playing the part, but about responding to the work of Jesus Christ as the Messiah. Through Jesus Christ, God opens the door for people to worship Him in the truth and way He created them to. This woman's spiritual wisdom became her saving reality when she experienced Jesus.

In John 4, Jesus crashes through cultural taboos in His exchange with a Samaritan woman at the well. His purpose went beyond what society accepted. The woman, once secure in her spirituality, realized what she was once sure of, was not as she thought. She discovers that life in Jesus offers more. Our response to Christ is determined by the understanding of our purpose. Are we sure of what we know? Are we still living for survival? Or have we realized that in Jesus, there is more, life, abundant...eternal...?

In John 3, there is a comparison between Nicodemus and John the Baptist. One looked the part, played the part and was affirmed by others, yet totally missed the mark. One cared little for tradition or detailed adherence to religious expectation, yet sought to honor God and glorify Jesus Christ with his entire life. While Nicodemus was affirmed by all who knew him as a man of God, within his heart he misunderstood what it meant to honor God. John however, knew that in all things Christ must be the center of our efforts. To truly live for Christ, we must live with the understanding that Christ is the center of our understanding, our purpose, and our reason for everything we are called to do in life. We live, and love, because God so loved....in Christ's glory is our affirmation!

The Pharisees, leaders of the temple, could not see the Son of God in Jesus Christ. Even through good intentions we miss the person and work of Jesus Christ when Christ is not the focus or the power by which we live our lives and seek to connect to God. (John 2:12-22)

Upon entering Jerusalem, Jesus saw the condition of the temple, and cleaned house. Driving out the moneychangers and those who turned a place of worship into a marketplace He revealed that through His coming and soon sacrifice, He brought a new system of worship and connection to God. In the heart is where the presence of God and the connection between the true believer and Creator exists. (John 2:12-22)
