This is a recording of an introduction speech to a healing service at Our Lady of Hope, and we talk about what healings and miracles point to. Throughout all salvation history, there's two fundamental realities that God wants for His people: 1. to know how much we are loved and to respond to it, and 2. restore our identity that gives us transformative power. Jesus, as the New Moses, inaugurates the New Exodus. We are freed from our enemies in baptism (fulfilled crossing of Red Sea), we are fed with heavenly bread of Christ Himself (fulfilled manna). After Jesus conquered death, He gave His apostles the mission of the sacraments: to baptize (Mt 28), to go give His people the Eucharist (Lk 22), and to forgive sins (Jn 20). He also gave all of us power from on high to bring the Gospel to the world with power; those who believe will heal the sick, cast out demons, etc. (Mk 16). We share His power! All of this, the sacraments and healings, bring two realities together: 1. Jesus purchased us all on the cross revealing the depths of God's love, and 2. the kingdom of heaven that can break in here and now. We are loved! The Gospel is power! Let's live like what we are - children of God with power!!

A.M.W. - Always More Wednesday. As people are dying, their last words are typically what means the most to them. In the first century, those who were crucified spoke as their last will. Jesus spoke 7 times from the cross, and in complete poverty he gave away the only thing He had left, His mother. The only direct command from Jesus was to His disciple to take His mother as His own. As the beloved disciple, Jesus tells us to take His mother as our very own.
