Unity as emphasized in Ephesians 4:1-6.   Ephesians tells us God’s mystery is that through the church, the world will know the gift of salvation in Jesus Christ.  However, this mystery’s credibility among our church body, is dependent upon our unity. Themes of God’s love, the Gospel, the Church, Oneness/Unity. 

Ephesians 1:3-10. 

God has planned from eternity past, to set his affection upon you and to bring to unity all things. God has predestined YOU to be a part of this plan.  Have you ever thought about this?

A popular and unconscious belief for Christians can be that I must depend upon Jesus for forgiveness, but depend upon myself for newness.  This dual-dependence is diametrically opposed to the gospel.  We must remain dependent upon Christ for this newness of life as well as for forgiveness of sin, for we are still held captive to sin’s power.  The cross has eradicated sin’s penalty, but sin’s power, albeit diminished is still present.  We must pray for our own captivity to sin’s power by daily depending solely upon God for the truth of the Gospel and God’s

The sermon will focus upon the glory of God.  God’s glory is something innate to God and ascribed to God from us, angels and all of creation.  God’s glory is the valuable thing to pursue in all the universe and it is for our best good.  Thus, everything in our lives ought to be oriented towards God receiving glory.  This includes our prayers, which at times betray our self-gratification emphasis over an emphasis upon God’s glorification. 

 

As we focus upon New Year’s resolutions that encompass life transformation, we remember that true life transformation comes through God, but also as we depend upon God to receive glory in our lives.  When we reorient our lives towards God’s glorification, then we will see real life transformation.

There is no greater extent than a holy God going to such great extent to include us in the kingdom of God.  Addressing how God’s people have been reluctant to include other people in God’s plan due to fear and elitism, but upon examining the extend of God’s love to include us, we can be overwhelmed by God’s grace and embrace God’s commission to send us on a mission of inclusion in the Kingdom of God.
