In the second chapter of the book of Ruth we see Naomi and Ruth making their journey back to Bethlehem, the hometown of Naomi. Now more than ever, the narrator begins to reveal what God is doing, and how he's working all things for the good of his children. Though Naomi is bitter, and even blames God in a sense, he doesn't forsake her.

In the opening chapter of the book of Ruth we already see the providential hand of God working in the lives of Naomi and Ruth. And though it is invisible to them, the narrator wants us to see clearly that God is not one who forsakes his children, even when they do feel as if they've been forsaken.
