With the holidays quickly approaching, each of us have our own traditions and feelings towards this time of the year. The same can be said about our families; through all of the complications, chaos and traditions it's easy to forget that family matters and each of us play a role.

Sometimes God’s grace and mercy can seem totally unfair. In Jonah's case, it made him downright mad that God told him to preach to the Ninevites, they repented, and God forgave them. In this last message in the REBEL series, come enjoy the comical yet deeply personal ending to the book of Jonah. Have you ever felt at odds with God? Have you ever questioned His calling on your life or how you feel about your situation? The old proverb says, "Better late than never." This is very true as it relates to Jonah. God calls Jonah, again, to fulfill God's purposes. Jonah has learned and is now available. God, delivered the children of Israel from Egypt to give them the Promised Land. Before the children of Israel were to take the land, twelve spies (one from each of the tribes of Israel) were sent in. Will they follow God by faith? Or will they choose to walk by sight and suffer dire consequences?

Sometimes life doesn't go the way we planned it. It can even go off the rails and we end up in a place we never thought we would be. Jonah ended up alive in the belly of a special fish that God prepared just for him. And Jonah, like many of us, came back home to God in the midst of life's difficult circumstances. Looking at how Jonah got there and how he prays to God from the depths of his despair, you just might learn a thing or two about what to do when life seems too hard to handle!

When we cry out to God, God answers us in profound ways. We see this clearly in the second half of Numbers 11 and Numbers 12. Moses needed help, and God placed His Spirit on 70 elders. The people wanted meat, and God sent quail (although as judgment). And after Miriam and Aaron rebelled against Moses’ leaders, God still healed!

Everyone's heard the story of Jonah. Like James Dean or William Wallace, when you think of Jonah you think Rebel. Someone who heard what God wanted him to do, but ran the opposite direction. At least that's what it looks like on the surface. The reality is the biggest rebel in the book of Jonah is actually God Himself.

Now we move into the main theme of this Wilderness series, that the children of Israel are in their own personal wilderness. They are struggling to trust and follow the God who created and delivered them. This rebellion is literally affecting everything.

We want to trust in Jesus, to depend on Him, and to lean on His understanding, but all too often we trust in ourselves, depend on our own abilities, and lean on our own understanding. We know we can't live God's life in our own strength, but how do we practically live in His?
