Looking back at your past, take a moment to identify an event, or events, that significantly changed your life.
If you are 6, that life-changing event might be going to kindergarten. You are now officially in school and it is different than being at daycare or at home with mom or dad.
If you are a bit older, the life-changing event could be leaving school and joining the work force. Adulting, as some affectionately call it, is a stark change from going to school.
At any age, a diagnosis from a doctor can be life-changing. Finding out that you have a debilitating disease or sickness can greatly affect your plans for the future.
No matter what event you identify, it is usually a challenging time and a season that stretches you physically, spiritually and emotionally.
In this week's lesson we meet a man names Zaccheus whose life was about to change.
The big change came when Jesus invited himself over to Zaccheus' house. Jesus walked right up to him and said, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly." Luke 19:5-6, NIV
Not trying to give the whole story away, but let's just say Zaccheus' life would never be the same.

In this week's lesson as we continue our Investigating Jesus message series, a person calls out to Jesus for help.
More specifically, a blind man calls out to Jesus for mercy, repeatedly. He makes such a scene that people tell him to be quiet. But Jesus hears and stops and answers.

We live in a turbulent economy. And with an election coming up, it is hard to determine what the markets are going to do.
So how do we keep our investments safe?
Gold salesmen would have us believe that buying gold will help us stabilize and control and safeguard our assets. Maybe they're right.
Others believe that in a time of political uncertainty, we should use bitcoin. Since bitcoin is decentralized and not controlled by a single government or bank, it will protect us from inflation or governmental unrest. Right?!?
Throw in some others options like the stock market and mutual funds and real estate and now we're completely confused.
Are any investments truly safe?
This weekend at CrossWalk Church, we're continue our Investigating Jesus message series. In this week's lesson a rich young ruler asks Jesus about protecting his future.
To be clear, the wealthy ruler was not asking Jesus financial advice as much as he was asking about security for the future. Jesus' response was SELL, SELL, SELL!
He said, “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” Luke 18:22b, NIV
It seems like Jesus is suggesting financial suicide. But he was actually offering this man a certain future.

Are you a good gardener?
Have you ever thought of God as a gardener?
God is an expert gardener. He knows exactly what he wants to grow in our lives and how to make it happen. He knows the weeds and rocks, and wants to remove.
In Luke 18:1-17, he records two parables Jesus taught and a real life event where Jesus welcomes and blesses little children. He uses these opportunities to point out what God wants to grow in our hearts and lives.
In these verses we will see how God especially wants these things to grow in our hearts: Perseverance for justice, humility and trust.
The context to these verses are important. Jesus just got done telling his disciples he would suffer many things. And he indicated they would also suffer when he said "whoever loses their life will find it."

We are at a point in the Gospel of Luke where Jesus reveals important information about his kingdom and the future. He does this so that no one will miss out.
Many people misunderstood Jesus and his kingdom. They thought it would be a political movement or a social program or possibly a new dynasty. For that reason they thought they were missing out.
But Jesus' kingdom is not of this world. It is a matter of the heart. It is a relationship with God now and an eternal relationship with God, later, in heaven.

Perhaps one of the most fundamental teachings, and yet the hardest to master, is forgiveness.
The reason why Jesus' plea to forgive is so striking is because of the cost of forgiveness. Consider how much it cost Jesus to forgive you. It cost him his life. In order to forgive us he needed to make the payment for our sins and wrongs and shortcomings.
The cross of Jesus is the reminder of the cost of forgiveness.

In the parable of the Shrewd Manager we learn that God entrusts us with HIS wealth. And he wants us to use it wisely. God owns everything he has given me. Believing that frees me to use money and love people.
Jesus warns us that Money and God can't both be masters of our hearts. Either we will hate the one and love the other, or we will be devoted to the one and despise the other.

In Luke 14, Jesus talks about what it takes to be his disciple. He is upfront about the cost. Luke 14 verse 33 says "In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples."
The cost seems ludicrous. How can he expect me to give up everything?
At CrossWalk Church this weekend, we will talk about the cost of being Jesus' disciple. We'll see that the extreme cost indicates the incredible opportunity we have in following Jesus.
He'd say it's the ultimate opportunity of a lifetime.
Jesus doesn't want to pull any punches. He doesn't want you to be surprised. Following him means carrying your cross daily. It means giving up everything.
Only with Jesus can we give up everything, and gain even more.
