  • Cruise Safety, Sailings, and Sustainability
Today's brief covers three stories. A 76-year-old American guest sailing aboard Norwegian Cruise Line's Norwegian Jewel died after becoming unresponsive while snorkeling at Ely's Harbour in Bermuda's Sandys Parish on Sunday, June 14; the Bermuda Police Service said foul play is not suspected and attributed the death to a pre-existing medical condition. And CLIA's 2025 Environmental Technologies and Practices Report details the industry's push toward net-zero emissions by 2050, noting that fewer than 3% of cruise ports worldwide currently offer shore power, that 120 cruise ships are equipped to connect today, and that 239 ships, nearly 80% of the fleet, are expected to be shore-power ready by 2028.
