Jon & Mitch may not be lacing up their combat boots, but they’re venturing deep into enemy territory in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. This episode of Cryptid Nuggets delves into the chilling paranormal experiences reported by U.S. Marines during a grueling 60-day stint at the notorious observation post, “OP Rock,” in 2009. From malfunctioning radios and bloodcurdling screams to a trench filled with human remains, these eerie occurrences added an extra layer of terror to the already perilous conditions of war. Join Jon & Mitch as they uncover the spine-tingling tales from “OP Rock.” And don’t miss today’s snack segment – a meal ready to eat that’s more likely to frighten your taste buds than satisfy your hunger!
Jon & Mitch take to the rainforests of the Congo and equatorial Africa to dissect the tales of the J’ba Fofi, also known as the Congolese Giant Spider, and before the duo realize it, they become ensnared in the intricate web of giant spider sightings throughout the tropics of the world vs. the physics and biology that makes modern day arachnids unable to attain such gargantuan sizes. But what if these creepy crawlies are not arachnids at all, but another arthropod relative? To match with the tropical theme, our hosts crunch into a staple cuisine found across the equator that might be a healthy alternative to other starchy treats.
Jon & Mitch might be staying close to home for this episode, but they’re still on the prowl, investigating reports of alien big cats in Southern New England. From the 1982 Beast of Truro that stalked Cape Cod, to the black panther-like Glawackus of Glastonbury Connecticut, the duo can’t help but feel that the cat’s out of the bag when it comes to historical reports and controversial contemporary evidence of cougars gone wild. Mitch himself may have even sighted one of these mystery felines in his younger years! And what better than to pair with a New England mystery beast than a New England classic chip, that despite being around all our hosts’ lives, offers some flavors they have yet to try?
It looks like Jon and Mitch took a wrong turn at Albuquerque as they crash land in and around Roswell, New Mexico to tackle the infamous Flying Saucer crash and coverup of 1947. Not only must our duo weather the storm when dealing with a ballooning chain of events and cover stories, but they also find themselves drawn to the surrounding areas of Aztec and San Augustin by reports of alien bodies, recovered aircraft and even stolen alien technology peppered into the Roswell narrative. But perhaps the bigger mystery in New Mexico that our hosts will uncover isn’t all the aliens popping up, rather the answer to a simple question: “Red or Green?”
There’s more than just gold in them Yukon hills! Jon and Mitch do a little prospecting of their own for some nuggets of truth as they dig in to George Dupoy’s infamous non-fiction account of “The Monster of Partridge Creek.” Normally dismissed as a fictitious short story, the duo can’t help but notice interesting similarities between the titular creature and what modern science says about arctic dinosaurs that wasn’t unearthed a hundred years ago. In addition, our hosts also sink their sweet tooth into a gummy treat reminiscent of our prehistoric friends. Will our prospectors strike gold, or will these colorful treats not pan out?
Jon and Mitch take on the “Big Easy,” New Orleans, Louisiana and sink their fangs into a real Creole caper! What starts as an inquiry into vampire lore that goes back to the founding of the Crescent City, turns into a globetrotting adventure chasing the very real, and equally mystifying, man that may be behind the myth of New Orlean’s most famous Vampire. Never afraid to sample some of the local culture, and not nearly as repulsed by garlic, the duo jazz it up with a bag of chips that boasts a uniquely New Orleans style and delivers a real Cajun crunch!
Jon and Mitch are headed across the pond to Merry Old England to try to make sense of the secrets of the infamous “Most Haunted House in London.” Not only will our dynamic duo be contending with tales of gothic landlords and ghosts, there are also rumors of a corporeal cryptid just waiting for a morsel to munch on… And to suit the occasion, our hosts try a nostalgic crisp from the U.K. with an equally storied history, all while trying to unravel this pickled onion of a mystery.
Something big and hairy has been causing quite the ruffle in North America for hundreds of years. Jon and Mitch embark on their maiden voyage, exploring the history and legend of Sasquatch amongst the indigenous peoples of Canada and the United States, while taking the opportunity to try a popular chip flavor also native to the Great White North.
