I know it’s a crazy idea especially because these creatures are huge. But this is exactly what Jason Heal – yowie investigator told me.

He has spent years in the Australian bush searching and connecting with these creatures and the gems that he dropped in this interview are outstanding. I know, I know yeah it’s running like spiders, singing out names of people, chanting…? 

Theories swirl of these Yowie/Bigfoot creatures in the Australian outback and sometimes you meet someone who absolutely blows your mind. This interview with Jason is a mind blowing one to say the least. And there will definitely be a part two in the works.

Ever wondered... does New Zealand have their own version of the big hairy ape man? Well the answer is a strong YES!!! And it's called the Moehau man. This hairy, bipedal wild man has been recorded by foreigners who came to New Zealand to mine for gold, for years.

The elders of the Iwi's, national and tribes have spoken about them since they arrived to Aotearoa. Because yes, the Moehau existed here in New Zealand long before the Maori people arrived. These wild men go by many different names and are surrounded in supernatural stories.

So your job is ... differentiate between the biological creature and the supernatural.

Forget the red hair, seashell bras and Disney version.

The older stories of mermaids are much stranger. In this episode of Walking in the Shadows, I head into mermaid and merpeople traditions from Australia, the wider Pacific and beyond, looking at the beings described in Indigenous stories, ancient folklore and reported encounters. 

Some are protectors. Some are warnings. Some lure people into the water. Others are described as frightening, powerful and very definitely not something you would want to meet while swimming alone at night. Then things get even weirder. Why do similar stories appear in cultures separated by enormous distances? Are we looking at mythology shaped by humanity’s relationship with water, misidentified animals, an undiscovered species... or something else entirely?

I also get into sirens, selkies, strange sightings, water spirits and my slightly unhinged theory about whether the beings we call “mermaids” might be nothing like the creatures we imagine them to be. I am not saying I have the answer.

I am saying I might be staying out of the deep water for a while.

In this episode of Walking in the Shadows, Lisa sits down with Jeni Monroe from the Monsters Lounge Podcast for a conversation that starts with Bigfoot and very quickly heads into much stranger territory.


Jeni shares a seriously creepy encounter she had in the Utah desert with something that appeared almost like a shadow creature, an experience that has stayed with her and left plenty of questions behind. From there, Lisa and Jeni get into Bigfoot, ancient knowledge, strange creatures and the possibility that some of the things we call cryptids might not be unknown animals at all, but survivors from a world we thought disappeared a very long time ago.

And because Jeni is also a diver and slightly obsessed with what might be hiding beneath the surface, they head straight into the deep water.
