  • Unleash Your Branding Brilliance with Marcy Browe

Are you building a new business? Are you wanting to switch up your current business? Marcy Browe, the California branding photographer, is sharing her tips to unleash your branding brilliance.

It’s all about the vision. Marcy’s first step in working with a new client and their business is to interview them, get a feel for who they are and what they want. She asks targeted questions to ensure that the clear vision for the brand is out there. When building your vision for your brand, think about things like...who do you want to connect with? What is your target audience? What do you want people to say about your business?

She’s seen, I’ve seen it, people get scared and insecure in front of the camera. Marcy has a method to how she gets her clients comfortable. Her advice brings it back to that vision. She reminds her clients to consider what they are there for. It’s easy to be insecure when you feel like all eyes are on you, but I promise it's not about you or your looks. It’s about your business and what you have to offer. The average business owner is no Kardashian, as Marcy said. Your desired audience doesn’t expect you to be picture perfect and camera ready, only to be authentic.

Marcy and I have a lot of similar ideals about mindset, abundance, and manifesting. She talks about the “appreciative mindset” and how that brings her more of what she wants in her life. She describes gratitude as a thankful thought that takes your work and desire for more out of the equation. The analogy she uses is that when a house appreciates in value, its price goes up. So when you appreciate something and have an appreciative mindset, you’re validating and saying, I like this and I want more.

Unleashing your brand brilliance can come down to some of your choices and actions in your personal life and business. One way you can add to that is by increasing your sustainability, both personally and professionally. Marcy talks about a lot of easy-to-adopt green tips that anyone can use!

It was such a pleasure talking to Marcy today. It is always a fun time when I get to work with her! I hope that you are able to translate some of this really great information into your life and your business. I can’t wait to hear what you thought about the episode!

    What’s Inside:

    • Tips to help businesses with their personal branding.
    • How to feel more confident in front of the camera.

  • Stories of Manifestation: How Manifesting Works for Me and Could Work for You Too

In this solo episode, I am sharing some stories of manifestation. I really believe in this, but I am by no means an expert. I hope this gives you some inspiration!

A few episodes back, I was talking about my indecision on the situation with our house here in California with our upcoming move to Colorado. I am excited to announce we ended up selling our house! Life is just so surreal right now and I definitely feel like I am living in a dream. This is where manifestation comes in!

So what is manifesting? As I said, I’m not a trained professional or teacher of manifesting, but I have read books, done research, and have a few professionals I look up to. It's something that has come really naturally to me and it's a big part of my life. In order to be successful with manifesting, you have to have a clear vision for what you want and why, and you have to let go of timing and put in the effort.

Here are some examples of manifestations in my life:

    Manifesting our dogs in Florence:
In 2018, my 16-year-old dog Bruiser passed away. He was a joy to everyone who knew him, and I will always miss him. Following that loss, we were able to take an epic 6-week vacation in the fall. During a week in Florence, Dustin and I decided we were ready for another dog in our life. We decided they were born on that day, 12/12, and he would be named Barry Pooh Jr. as an ode to Bruiser. Just a few months and a little research later, we welcomed home not 1 but 2 dogs, Barry and Florence. What was their birthday, you ask? You guessed it. December 12th!

    Manifesting our California House:
After our trip to Italy, we stayed at my brother and sister-in-law’s house for Christmas. I woke up really early and started to sketch out this house I wanted to move into. I always wanted to move. I shared it with Dustin and we would go on walks around these neighborhoods and look at what we wanted in them. Just across the street from where we were living at the time, we happened upon a great house in a sleepy neighborhood we loved. Turns out it was available. The timing was right and we ended up in this home now. I think that’s why it was so hard to decide on selling it, because it’s just so special.

Manifesting a “Gorgeous Home” in Colorado:
For a while, I have been feeling called to go back home to Colorado and be close to family. I journal every morning and I always write down the things I am trying to manifest, one of these being “I want a gorgeous home in Colorado”. Through the pandemic, my desire to move to Colorado only increased, so after a lot of talking, we decided to go to Colorado and look for a house. We fell in love with a Model Home there, and I just love that play on words for my manifestation. Because what is more gorgeous than a model? Again, the timing for this was beautiful. The builder needed the home for 16 more months, which gave us time to get organized for the move.

If you are trying to manifest something in your life, my advice for you is to get a clear vision. What do you want? Why do you want it? Are you willing to put in the work for it?

    What’s Inside:

    • Stories of how I  use manifesting in my real life.
    • Visualizing and the power of the universe.
    • The key to manifesting.

  • Women in Wine: The Ins and Outs of the Wine World and Succeeding in a Male Dominated Industry

Aubrey Terrazas is the Co-Found, Marketing Director, and Master Sommelier Candidate for the Palate Club. Her intro into the wine world began with her degree in French and as she waited tables alongside sommeliers. She continued her learning and worked as a sommelier for many years at the start of her career in wine.

As an avid wine enthusiast and lover of learning, I have thought a lot about becoming a sommelier. Through my research, I found it to be a rigorous and intense process. Aubrey shared that there are many avenues into this field. To work in a restaurant as a sommelier there is no formal education or certification required. Many use their personal knowledge and experience. However, if you do choose to get a certification or even a master's certification, it is very intense because you have to learn about wine and grapes from all over the world.

Palate Club was founded by Nicolas Mendiharat. He became a wine lover growing up in France and noticed a problem in choosing wine from the large variety found on shelves when he moved to the USA in 2015. Even having knowledge about wine, he found difficulty finding the wines he liked when there were so many labels in front of him. Palate Club was founded to help wine lovers find wines that match their taste, learn about wine, and discover new bottles from around the world.

Sustainability Sourced in the wine world is really on-trend right now. People often find that wine labeled “Sustainable” can give less of a hangover, which makes sense because the word sustainable can mean so many things in the wine industry. Aubrey described sustainable as an umbrella term, starting all the way in the vineyard, from how they grow and treat their grapes all the way to packaging. In fact, more than 50% of a wine's carbon footprint comes from a bottle.

As a woman in a very male-dominated industry, Aubrey shared some of what she sees and her advice for women in wine or other industries. Like many fields, as a young woman, it can be hard to get a job and be taken seriously. Aubrey says that the key to success is to work hard and stay authentic to who you are. She finds it important to put the focus on your power and your knowledge and not on using vanity to get ahead. I can say that being heavily involved in the social media world with Crystal Media, it can be easy to be distracted by vanity and compete in that way. However, if you're true to yourself, I truly believe you will get where you want to go in the way you want to get there.

This was such a fun episode for me because as you know, I love wine! It was so fun to talk about wine and learn so much! I cannot wait to hopefully do a tasting with the Palate Club soon!

  • How To Be More Decisive: Cure Indecisiveness and Trust Your Choices.

If you’ve been listening to the show, you know Dustin and I have a lot going on. Our move to Colorado has been moved from originally February 2022 to October 2021, just a few weeks from when this episode airs. Amid all the normal business of business and the typical moving stresses, we have a big decision to make. This is a decision that has really been affecting me lately and I think even hurting other decisions and to-do lists in my life.

Yesterday, my body just told me to stop. I pushed the pause button on everything we have going on and relaxed, napped, and rested. I am feeling the effects of that today because I have been the most productive I have in a while; I’ve finished my lists and more. So if you're feeling overwhelmed and tired, listen to your body, take that rest because it is usually what we need to be our best self and show up.

Even though I’m rested and I’m feeling better, that big decision is still hanging over my head. Dustin and I are really struggling with what to do with our California house. We bought a house in Colorado, and we don’t know if we should sell, rent, or VRBO our house in Oceanside. We are thinking each option out and there are just so many variables and outcomes; I am at a standstill. Regardless, I need to decide, we need to decide. I am hoping that this can help some of my listeners make some of their big decisions too.

Through my search on how to cure indecisiveness; here are some of the top tips on how to be more decisive:

    • Eliminate all options.
    • Embrace uncertainty wholeheartedly.
    • Get clarity on priorities.
    • Overcome perfectionism.
    • Let go of your need for control.
    • Stop asking for reassurance.
    • Tackle decision fatigue.

Going through all of these tips has helped me see the barriers holding me back from making our decision. Some of the tips I have really been able to put into action and narrow down our choices, and others I now know what I need to do to get closer to that final decision. In my research, I read that inaction causes more damage, and you increase your chances of failing by not deciding. I know I'll be ready to decide soon and if you are working on making a big decision too, hopefully, these tips can give you direction as well. If you have some special tips or secrets on how you make your decisions, send me a DM or email. I can’t wait to hear from you!

    What’s Inside:

    • How to be more decisive.
    • What to do when you're indecisive.
    • Life advise for making choices.
    • Knowing when to trust yourself and trust your choices.

  • Lessons Learned in Business with Creator of Rain Organica Skincare, Brandy Searcy

One of the many reasons I love business is the opportunity to learn every day. Brandy Searcy joins me today to discuss her company, Rain Organica, a vegan skincare line. We talk about the lessons she’s learned in the journey of building her business and even some bonus tips and information for your skin health.

Brandy is an engineer, scientist, and skin health junkie. Her need for a clean solution to her skincare problems and her passion for functional medicine, lead to the creation of Rain Organica. Rain Organica is a vegan skincare line designed to be a routine you can easily build into your schedule, with simple packaging to follow you wherever life takes you. Brandy is an entrepreneur with a passion for skincare and even shared a few important tips.

    Brandy’s Skin Health tips:

    • Know what you’re putting on your skin. Most sunscreens contain ingredients that are undergoing questioning from the FDA. Try an antioxidant spray instead.
    • Protect your skin. Any clothing is going to be a protective barrier between your skin and the sun. Cover your skin and wear a hat to protect your face.
    • Check your skin. Check vulnerable areas and skin that has been exposed to the sun for long periods.
    • Advocate for yourself. Visit the doctor and request a biopsy if you’re concerned with something you’ve found on your skin.

When Brandy set out to create Rain Organica, she had her ideal customer in mind. She has learned over time that while her ideal customer is the same, the conversation has changed. She had to look at who she was, what she knew, and the platforms she needed to reach that ideal customer. Brandy speaks to the importance of being yourself and sharing what you know, when you do that the rest will come.

As a business owner, it can be so hard to achieve a work/life balance. Brandy not only owns and operates her company, and she has a day job as well. She found that even when she was “off”, she was really still on because her brain was constantly thinking about her business. Even when you love what you do, you have to set boundaries. Brandy’s tip for work/life balance is to keep your boundary firm and create space between life and work. She says that if she's out with her husband or upstairs in her bedroom, her phone does not come with her. Leaving her phone behind helps her be present in what she's doing and eliminates the ability to check emails or other business tasks. Brandy says she's experienced a total mindset shift since doing this, and it's definitely for the best.
Know what you know. It’s okay to outsource work. I paid Brandy a compliment on her social media content. As the owner of Crystal Media, it's something I really work with my clients on perfecting. She shared she has outsourced her socials; she knows that she can provide the information and be that face, but regarding creating content and scheduling posts, it’s not what she’s best at.

This episode is packed with tips for business owners and entrepreneurs who are starting new ventures or refining old ones. Brandy Searcy is full of knowledge from skincare to owning and operating a company. Be sure to check out her website for a discount on her skincare line and check out her podcast for more health tips!

    What’s Inside:

    • The creation of Rain Organica, vegan skincare.
    • Brandy’s skin health tips.

  • A Trip Down Memory Lane: Celebrating 25 Episodes an Interview by Dustin Peyser

25 episodes are certainly something to celebrate. My boyfriend, Dustin Peyser, flipped the script and interviewed me, Crystal Vilkaitis. We enjoyed a few bottles of wine while we took a trip down memory lane. Cheers!

This podcast has become such a labor of love for me. I have so many listeners from near and far. It’s such an honor for me that anyone listens to the show, but especially my dear friends. Time is our greatest resource, and to have you here sharing it with me is something I couldn’t  be more grateful for.

If you have a podcast or are thinking of starting one, one of my best pieces of advice is to invest in it! If it is something you enjoy, treat it like any one of your hobbies that you would buy supplies and put money into. Making it to episode 25 is such a milestone for me and having the podcast team, Podfixer, behind me has really ensured I’ve made it this far.

Going into the creation of the show, I didn’t anticipate how much work truly went into doing a podcast. I also underestimated how seriously I’d take this. So much goes into getting my guests. I’ve found that my interviews have been a big highlight of the show and it can be so scary asking people to do the show. I’ve had friends, clients, and people close to me on the show, which has been great. Now, I'm starting to venture into taking on people I have never even met or talked to before, and that is intimidating. I’ve gotten big into analyzing interviews and my piece of advice for interviewers is: leave the conversation to the guest. The focus of the interview should stay about the interviewee; be careful not to talk too much or turn the focus to you!

There have been so many incredible interviews in the last 25 episodes. I have truly loved every guest episode so far for different reasons. My interview with Rob and Leah Davis was such an emotional and powerful episode. We talk about the movement and inspiration that came from the grief of losing their son; they share some really moving sentiments. It's not the only episode that has been so special to me; my goal of this show is to create a safe place to share and I have so much trust in the content of this show.

Dustin challenges my vision for the show. We all know I am a dreamer and I have so many hopes and dreams. The community my show will create, future merch, and people I’ll inspire are really what drives me in the creation of this show. Who knows who I could interview in the future?

In this episode, we dive into behind-the-scenes thoughts and processes that keep this show going. This is just the beginning for Crystal Uncorked!

  • Three Days with My Mentor Patricia Norins: Part 2

Last week, we talked all about my three-day strategy meeting with my mentor, Patricia Norins. I’m back to finish up with the remaining four of the seven lessons I learned during this incredible meeting.

    Lesson Four: Compete with Yourself

I had to admit I was spending way too much time looking at other creators and businesses and comparing myself to them. Patricia really helped me see this was such a  waste of my time. If I’m not competing against others, how can I stay motivated and fulfil that competitive streak within me? The answer is, compete against myself, keep working harder and doing better than I ever have.

Lesson Five: Stay True to You

I had this really great Idea that I was super pumped about because it just made so much sense. But when I really thought about it, it wasn't for me. It wasn’t going to have me jumping out of bed and it wasn’t right for MY business. Every Idea you have does not have to be actualized. It's okay to have good ideas and say “that’s cool but it's not right for me”. Staying true to you will help you keep your eye on the business goals that are right for you!

Lesson Six: Visualize your Made It Moment

The three of us, Patricia, Pauline, and I, stared out into the ocean and shared our “Made it” moments. These are what you see when you close your eyes and envision success. What does that “Wow I’ve made It! This is what I’ve worked hard for.”, moment look like for you? I challenge you to visualize that moment and use it to fuel you and your business, keeping you aligned no matter what road blocks you hit along the way.

Lesson Seven: Treat your Household Finances Like a Business

Patricia helps me not only with my business but in many personal ways too and she shared this tip with me that I think is such a great idea. Dustin and I aren't married and we really keep our finances separated right now, but as we move toward our future, we have to sit and think about our mutual goals. We sat down for our first strategy meeting for our relationship and it was so comforting and exciting to see how our goals matched up.

These are the last of my many lessons I took from my strategy meeting. I can’t wait to hear about your made it moment, please share with me on Instagram!

  • Three Days with My Mentor Patricia Norins: Part 1

Recently I spent three days all about strategy with my mentor, Patricia Norins. I have been working with her for 7 or 8 years. In this episode, I am sharing three of the seven lessons I learned over the course of this meeting. I am sharing behind-the-scenes takeaways that are relatable but also really personal. I am drinking a 2014 Merlot from Mount Palomar Winery, located in Temecula. Cheers! Let’s get into those lessons.

Lesson One: You have to make time for strategy.

Oftentimes you schedule the meeting, you prep, you attend, and suddenly 15 minutes in you're talking about logistics and processes and everything BUT strategy. Talking strategy and making time for it is such a smart idea for a business. This is such a crucial time for growth where you can explore goals and decide the avenues that are right for you. We used SWOT analysis to divide and decide the goals that are best to pursue.  I created a theme of three words that guided my strategy meeting. Scale. Evolve. Diversify.

Lesson Two: Start the meeting thinking big, then work backward.

I highly recommend creating the agenda and prepping for the meeting structure beforehand. I originally had planned to start, day one, where are we at? Day two, where do we wanna go? Patricia suggested we flip that. On day one we talked about goals with the sky's the limit, nothing is unattainable, and then follow up with day two on the day to day and now. You get so caught in the weeds in the logistics of discussing where you're at and what's working and what's not working that it can be hard to pause and start being expansive with goal setting. Going high with your thinking and then bringing it down can help you set new goals AND the steps to attain them from where you’re at.

Lesson Three: Give space to create and don’t rush the process.

A tip from my three days is to switch up the environment, we were moving locations from my house to dinner and so on, but keeping the conversation going. I had been feeling so deflated lately with the show and I was just trying to figure out what direction I am going next. Patricia encouraged me to allow myself to set the goal to not monetize the show for the rest of this year or even next year. This opportunity to just enjoy and have fun felt right. Through this space of freedom to create and grow, I feel like I can go slow and create something even better.

These were three of my seven lessons from my three days with my mentor, Patricia Norins. Listen in next week for the remaining four because I definitely saved the best for last!

  • Let’s Have Dinner: Get to Know Me and My Favorite Things

We are shaking things up this week. Today, I am pretending we are at a dinner party together, and I am sharing some of my favorites and things I would talk about with my friends. The wine I am “enjoying” today will be that of my future self when I am drinking at dinner, enjoying the view with my friends just a few hours after recording this episode.

If you were a friend at my house for dinner, we would start by talking about some of our favorite TV shows. I have a secret, or not so secret, desire to be the host of the Bachelorette. I love reality and love TV shows. I'm also watching a few other shows I share about that spark my need for creativity and another that is just such a sweet show. Do you cry at movies? I tell you about a movie I just added to my list of those that have me sobbing at the end.

Now for my book picks, if you can believe it, I am reading 7 books right now. It's a good mix of business, inspirational, educational, and a fiction story thrown in there. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid is the fiction story I am reading right now. I started it on my Hawaii vacation because as I mentioned last week I had committed to a full unplug no work, business, or socials, so this was just for pleasure. I am also reading quite a few books I go into detail with that help with doing work with yourself and your thinking, as well as books focusing on money and business. So many great book recommendations for you if you’re looking for your next thing to read.

What would a dinner party be without games!? This past weekend we had a game weekend and I am sharing some of my favorites. One of the games I love the most is Catan. We play the Cities and Knights version, but it is like Monopoly meets Risk and it is just so much fun. There are a ton of other games I list that are so fun to play with friends and family.

If any of these things are your favorites too or you end up trying them, please let me know what you think! I wanna hear from you if you’re enjoying these episodes, so please leave a review, share pictures of you listening, anyway you are consuming this content!
