  • CSG #628: On shaking hands with Jokic, Nuggets bench and Shaq and Kobe

Welcome back to the latest Mortcast. On this weeks show:

NBA Players not shaking hands after Nuggets losses. Not as big a deal as you think. With Jokic it is more that, by his own choice, he is outside of the NBA clique.

The Nuggets bench. Well ... Julian Pickett likely isn't the answer but he did play better than Colin Gillespie on defense. The Nuggets are in survival mode unti Jamal gets back due to the Nuggets bench youth.

Kobe vs Shaq: Secret Base just put out a great three part series on their relationship. I suggest everyone check it out. Jeff talks about how he saw himself in Kobe and how that gave him an existential crisis.

A fun and funny conversation

  • CSG #627: Early Nuggets season thoughts and the 'Tim Duncan Principle'

Jeff Gives his brief thoughts on the Nuggets early season. Remember foks, there's no point in heavily analyzing the NBA season until you get at least 10-12 games into the season. Not enough time for true trends to develop but Jeff likes what he sees so far from the team

In the second half Jeff talks about how the player makes the coach in what he likes to call the 'Tim Duncan Principle'

Nuggets prevailed over the Los Angeles Lakers on opening night! Nuggets got their rings!

First Half: Jeff goes over the Nuggets performance from individual players from Nikola Jokic to Michael Porter Jr. Talks about how similar the Nuggets looked to when we last saw them in the NBA Finals and how MPJ's not an 'option' but a wild card special ingredient.

Second Half: Jeff talks about how same the Lakers looked to when the Nuggets last played them, despite their new additions. How AD is supposed to be special and just hasn't been and how Lebron is old and people need to accept it. Also Jeff talks about Lakers organizational view of the Nuggets ... how they think they should always beet the Nuggts and are struggling to come to terms with just how good the Nuggets are.

    3. NBA Business talk.

The history of NBA load management: How Gregg Popovich's annoyance at the NBA for scheduling a back to back national tv game led to a decade of increasing load management by analytics driven portions of NBA locker rooms. How resting an old Tim Duncan spiraled into perpetual resting of players.

Homophobia in Sports: I try to explain why homophobia is so hard to eradicate in sports. From the male ego to the assumption your friend has been lying to you ... locker room culture when it comes to having a gay teammate is complex and multi-facited. Can it be changed?
