Scientists at the CSIRO have identified a new bat-borne virus.

Named Salt Gully, it belongs to the same virus family as the Hendra and Nipah viruses but is found in Australian flying foxes.

It's just the latest discovery by Australia's national science agency, which itself is at a crossroads over its future staffing levels and research strategy.
