  • WTMusic LIVE Interview: Wills and Johnuel of Toothgrinder

    We Talk Music is live on location at the Palace Theatre in Calgary and Brett is joined by Toothgrinder drummer Wills Weller and guitarist Johnuel Hasney. Lots of info here about their current trek with All That Remains and Lacuna Coil, "The Disease of the Anima tour", and their new album I Am.

    Wills and Justin of Toothgrinder

    Trying to escape the booming noise of the soundcheck, we thought it was a good idea to do the interview in the back alley behind the club. For the most part this provided a fairly quiet interview space, until a car drove by and splashed us all with mud. We all had a good laugh and kept on chatting about the Disease of the Anima tour as well as a bunch of other topics including:

    Johnuel of Toothgrinder

    * Whether they ask for advice from older bands
    * The new album I Am, and the updated sound
    * The message the band is trying to promote with their music
    * The origin of Toothgrinder
    * How they update their sound for every album
    * Albums vs singles and the decisions the band has to make
    * Their mascot Jubilee and its evolution
    * Doing the Megadeth cruise
    * What the fans should expect from a Toothgrinder show

    Johnuel of Toothgrinder, Brett, and Wills of Toothgrinder

    "I do not want to go into another long-winded rant, but those who have heard the last two songs we have released from I AM and have read my passages know what this whole record is about. I want to keep this about us — those suffering and willing to change for the better. If anyone is in the throes of alcoholism, addiction and/or co-dependency, please get in contact with me at [email protected]. I love you all!" — Justin Payne Matthews, vocals

  • WTMusic LIVE Interview: Andrea Ferro of Lacuna Coil

    We Talk Music is live on location at the Palace Theatre in Calgary and Brett is joined by Lacuna Coil singer Andrea Ferro to talk about the current tour with All That Remains - The Disease of the Anima tour and their new album Black Anima.

    Interviewing someone live before a show is always a challenge and this one is no exception. The interview spans three separate locations as we tried desperately to avoid the loud noises and sound check going on. Either way, it's a fun interview and worth a bit of background noise. We talk about Disease of the Anima as well as a bunch of other Lacuna Coil related topics including:

    * The songs from Black Anima performed live
    * That they get to tour North America regularly
    * The traveling conditions for the tour
    * The new album Black Anima and the different sound
    * What it's like to be on Century Media
    * How they give advice to new bands
    * The new drummer and the chemistry of the band
    * The songwriting process for the band
    * Fan reaction to the bands songs
    * Social media and promotion strategy
    * Their collaboration with DC and his favorite superheroes
    * What the fans should expect from the show

    Lots of great stuff in this interview, so check it out and read our WeView of the concert to get the full live experience. And also be on a lookout for our chat with Wills and Johnuel of Toothgrinder from this same night real soon.
