On today’s episode of The Cultivate Podcast, I am joined Britty O’Connor. Britty is the owner and head baker of Flour & Salt Bakery and Cafe, as well as Martha’s on Madison. She is also the president of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce.
Britty got her degree in education, but as someone who has been baking since early adulthood, when she was offered the brick-and-mortar for Flour & Salt, she knew she couldn’t pass up the opportunity.
During our conversation, Britty shares insights into her unexpected journey of owning Flour and Salt, sharing how she expanded her business, opened a new location, and adapted to what her market wanted. She emphasizes the importance of hiring the right people and fostering a strong team dynamic.
Additionally, Britty shares the concept of radical candor, and how this management style has allowed her to build a team that is passionate and aligned with the values of the bakery. She also hints about some of her potential future projects, including writing a cookbook and offering consulting for aspiring entrepreneurs.
