In essence, "living for day one" emphasizes living in the present and making the most of each day, while "one day" suggests a future-oriented mindset where one looks forward to achieving something in the future. Both perspectives have their merits, and the choice between them depends on individual values, goals, and circumstances. Some people may prioritize living in the present moment, while others may focus more on long-term goals and aspirations.

The Moment + the man!

Have you ever been given a second chance? We unpack the legendary "CATCH" from David Tyree in Super Bowl XLII.

With the ball in the air, Tyree perfectly timed his jump to catch it at the peak of its arc. Harrison immediately attempted to knock the ball from his possession as he came down with it, but Tyree locked it onto his helmet with incredible strength from his right hand before hitting the ground and securing it with both hands. Somehow, Tyree maintained control the entire time, and the ball never hit the ground. The greatest play in Super Bowl history had just set the stage for the greatest upset in Super Bowl history.

Do you have Standards on your Team?

Chances are you do. Most leaders of any organization or in this case a sports team have rules and/or standards. In this episode we look at the standard that was set by a captain on the Miami Dolphins when Larry Csonka was a rookie and was about to take the field with his helmet off.

The next question you have to ask yourself as a leader is do I have a standard for everything in my program or organization?

Lastly, we look at how much freedom do you give your players or employees inside your organization.

Is trust earned or given? The answer is BOTH.

Each year John Torrey and John Weaver pick a word for the New Year that will inspire us to be our best. We started this practice three years ago.

As most of you may know Jon Gordon wrote One Word with Dan Britton and Jimmy Page to help people discover their word for the year. Dan and Jimmy invented the "One Word" practice and have been doing it with their families for over twenty years.

Our words over the years have been: FINISH, INTENTIONAL and, PERSEVERE

Each word has molded and shaped us to become better people, fathers, husbands, leaders and communicators. Looking back we might say that our One Word chose us more often than we chose it.

It's also a fun team building exercise and much more effective than New Year's resolutions. 9 out of 10 people will fail with their resolutions but One Word sticks. No goals. No resolutions. Just One Word that helps you write and create a yearly chapter in your life story. It's powerful.

Many words can be used to describe the man known as college football’s Pirate — “quirky,” “unique,” “genius” — but one thing is certain: Mike Leach beat to the rhythm of his own drum.

In this episode we look into the legacy of Mike Leach.

Joining Hal Mumme's staff is 1989 as the OC at Iowa Wesleyan, the Valdosta State, Kentucky, and Oklahoma. His first head coaching gig was at Texas Tech from 2000-09, then transformed and revitalized the town of Pullman, WA while at Washington State from 2012-19. Mississippi State is where his career ended as he moved on to greener fields in a place we can only imagine.

The legacy that will outlive him is, of course, the “Air Raid” offense that his former boss, Hal Mumme, created and he essentially perfected.

It’s appropriate that Leach won his last game — the Egg Bowl against arch-rival Ole Miss. But that’s just a victory that lives on paper. Leach’s real victory was in life. To a man, every coach who has made any kind of statement about his passing liked him as a person, respected his high level of intelligence and feared his “Air Raid” offense.
