In this episode we discussed the link between obesity and severe Covid -19 cases. Recent studies have shown that people who are battling obesity are more likely to have a severe reaction or be hospitalized if infected with Covid -19. Obesity is also linked to impaired immune function and a decrease in lung capacity.   

2021 Obesity Stats (data from the World Population Review): 

* The United States ranks 12th in the world for obesity.  

* Approximately, 36.9% of American adults (age 20 and older) are obese.  

* Approximately 15% of children are obese.   

Here are the 10 states with the highest rates of obesity:  

Mississippi (40.80%) West Virginia (39.70%) 

Arkansas (37.40%) Oklahoma (36.80%)

Kentucky (36.50%) 

Tennessee (36.50%) 

Alabama (36.10%) 

Michigan (36.00%) 

Louisiana (35.90%) 

South Carolina (35.40%)  

Dr. Luis Ostrosky-Zeichner  is a professor of medicine and epidemiology, the Vice-Chair of Medicine for Healthcare Quality, the director of the Laboratory of Mycology Research, and the Division Chief at the Division of Infectious Diseases of the McGovern Medical School (a part of UTHealth). He also serves as medical director for epidemiology and antimicrobial stewardship for Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center and UT Physicians. He is also currently coordinating the Covid -19 response for UTHealth and its affiliated hospitals and clinics.  ********************************************************************************

Fun conversation with Kenny Stanford II, owner of Grit Fitness and Dale Frankum II, owner of Vital Functional Fitness. The two gym owners/friends discuss the differences in their fitness ideologies. Alyssa took full advantage of the quarantine time period and completed 95 consecutive daily marathons - eclipsing the previous women's record of 60. In this episode we talked about her running journey and how she maintained her body throughout this journey. Recently, Alyssa also became the first female to complete the 335-mile trek – with 50,000 feet of elevation change – on the Pinhoti Trail near the Appalachian Mountains. Alyssa accomplishes all these markers while maintaining a school teaching position.

Jennifer Bridges is a Nurse from Texas who is the leading plaintiff in a lawsuit against Houston Methodist Hospital over the mandatory vaccine requirements that were imposed in mid-2021. Jennifer was one of 178 employees that were suspended for not getting the vaccine. Currently, there are more than 100 Houston Methodist employees that have joined the lawsuit. In this episode, we talk with Jennifer about the events leading up to her being suspended and she also shared some of the intimate conversations that she had with Methodist leadership regarding the vaccine requirements.

What an amazing episode with the talented photographer, Emily Wisch. Originally from the Houston Texas area, Emily is now traveling around the country with her newly acquired camper and furry companion "Lucy", capturing spectacular images for her clients. Emily specializes in everything from wedding photos to intimate Boudoir sessions. In this episode we discuss Emily's travel plans and how she came to purchase her new camper. Emily also shared the intimate details about her coming out to her family as being bi-sexual. We talked through current world stigmas around bi-sexuality and how her loved ones responded to the news.
