In this episode, Alexa talks about Sr. Jessica Powers, a Carmelite nun who was a contemporary poet from Wisconsin. She was a mystic, meaning she would have visions or moments with God, and then used those as inspiration for her poems. Her ongoing themes are the greatness of God, the mortality of humans, and Midwest scenery. EJ connects her poetry to the Christian mystery of incarnation, and draws a lesson from women mystics about how to be more present in the world.
