In this episode Alexa Harnagel shares the story of Sister Mary Ellen O’Hanlon, OP who was a scientist. She achieved a doctorate from the University of Chicago without missing a day of teaching and her relationship with renowned chemist Percy Julian and his wife drew her into the rising civil rights movement. She wrote Racial Myths which addressed issues of scientific study and human relations, and spoke frequently on racism. The Heresy of Race set forth scientific principles with evidence supporting equality later confirmed by DNA research.
