In this episode we continue the Preaching Lab series.

Step One: Pray. Seek the Lord for guidance for the best topic on which to preach about. Saturate your study and preparation with prayer. Without the anointing we might as well not even attempt to preach.

Step Two: Select a Text. Our assignment was to preach a youth class or youth aged service. All of Scripture needs to be preached, but it is important to know what you are going to preach from Scripture. Keep your audience, setting, environment and culture in mind as you select the text.

Step Three: Consider the Scripture. As we select the Scripture and topic we then proceed to study the text thoroughly. Ask all of the important questions about the Scripture. Do not leave any stone unturned. Refer to the eight steps for cutting it straight.

Step Four: Write it Down. As you read your Scripture and begin examining it you should start writing down the answers to your questions you’ve been asking. Compile your information whether in a notebook, or in a digital file. You may not use all of it, but you don’t want to lose any of it!

Step Five: Consulting Resources. Take the time to consult with dictionaries, commentaries and word helps.

Step Six: Outlining. “Know what you’re going to preach, just don’t preach all that you know.” Create a clear outline. If it’s not clear to you, then it will not be clear to your listeners.
