  • My Thoughts Monday #135- Evolving In This Time, To Return To The Basics of Programming
“What is the one underlying quality that all team sport athletes need to compete? How can we build a robust aerobic system that is going to allow them to adapt, evolve, and move forward?”

“What are some ways that we can get the tissues to be resilient and how can we progress that?”

This My Thoughts Monday is brought to you by Vald Performance, the team behind the NordBord, ForceDecks, the GroinBar and HumanTrak. With all their products providing evidence-based solutions to performance professionals so they can get the right information, for the right decision, at the right time. As this “new norm” continues we are now facing a unique challenge in the world of physical preparation, and that is an actual off season. In many, if not all sports, participation year round has become the norm. With the current situation hampering those opportunities we now have the opportunity to prepare these athletes for participation. In this weeks My Thoughts Monday I share some ways we have started to look at this developmental period, how we have “had the answers” all along, and how we are hoping to progress and audit this progress.

  • Outside The Rack #37- Andrew Cormier
“Intensive training is intensive training regardless of if you’re just looking at it as the exercise or the overall training loads.”

What’s up everybody and welcome the 37th episode of Outside The Rack brought to you by Kinetic Performance the makers of Gymaware. In this show we are going to try to dive a little deeper into the minds of the top practitioners in the world of sport performance to learn a bit more about who they actually are and how they got to where they are at today. Today we are joined by University of Massachusetts Sports Performance Coach Andrew Cormier. Andrew, thanks for being with us today?

Before we start, who is Andrew Cormier?

I’m a guy that tries to find place and people better then he found them

    1) Describe a learning situation that brought about an epiphany in your career

The biggest thing has been, when you really view any of the work done by athletes, you realize you maybe don’t need to quite as much as you do in the weight room.

    2) If you could ask one questions and you know you would get the answer what would that be and why?

“What is the perfect holistic program that takes into account all factors?”

    3) What’s your escape?

I actually prefer anything quiet, like being outside by a lake, or listening to nature.

We are hoping to provide the best possible content for strength coaches with each of our shows. If feel this could provide value for anyone else in the strength and conditioning field please feel free to share.

“Muscles don’t know they're stabilizers, they just know to contact and relax.”

“One of the hardest things to do is to figure out what to fix and what not to fix.”

This episode of The Podcast is brought to you by Exxentric, the makers of the kBox and kPulley. Exxentric is the world leader in fly wheel training technology providing multiple pieces to fit your budget and needs to better serve your athletes. North American customers looking for more info should contact Andreas at [email protected] or 503-739-1391. Got to sit down with Chase Campbell and talk all things training. We go through some ways we have used to work around tendon issues with athletes, and some reflections on this past seasons training. We also run down the rabbit hole of unilateral vs bilateral training, and what value he has found from riding the fence on this aspect of training, and how hand supported single leg exercises have changed his point of view of training on one leg.

We are hoping to provide the best possible content for strength coaches with each of our shows. If feel this could provide value for anyone else in the strength and conditioning field please feel free to share

A topic of debate is what experience is required to have a say. In this weeks My Thoughts Monday I discuss why time in the field alone is not enough to say you have greater experience than someone else, and why we really CAN and SHOULD learn from coaches of all “experience” levels.
