Today we are joined by the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach from the St. Louis Blues Eric Renaghan to discuss the rebuild process in professional hockey. The discussion starts out with Eric sharing with us some of methods that they have used to help build the culture that the new staff is hoping to instill within the team, including some forms of monitoring they’re using. This leads us to discussing how these factors are affecting what they’re doing with the guys in the second half of the season in order to help them be ready for a playoff push. Eric then shares with us the organizational set up that teams in the NHL have, and how that impacts the prescription of training throughout the year, along with how athletes at different levels (juniors, college, AHL, NHL) need to be handled differently not just because of age, but also what facilities they have access too. Eric then dives down the rabbit hole of how he has built KPI’s based on measurements that he has seen, and what correlated with athletes who have high rankings on specific game statistics that tend to show success at a specific position.

Getting outside your comfort zone is important for growth. That includes who you are looking to hire when you are filling positions, and how you progress yourself and your staff though education.
